History: The Libur language is an isolate from before the Proto-Indo European period. The island of Crees was first inhabited by the Greeks until it was overtaken by the Roman Empire. The Roman province of Liburnia first unified the Libur people and language speakers. It later became part of the Byzantine empire as a Dalmatian city-state. The slavs arrived in Crees in 812 until the Republic of Venice took control of the island during the X and XI centuries. In 1809 Napoleon handed the control of the island to Austria and later to the French Empire. After the fall of Napoleon, Austria took control of the island once again and kept it for a century. During this time the economy developed due to olive trees, sage and other plants becoming a key part to its success. At the end of World War I, with the Treaty of Rapallo signed in 1920, the island was handed over to the Kingdom of Italy. Crees was handed over to Yugoslavia in 1947 along with neighboring islands and the Istrian Peninsula. The Kingdom of Crees gained independence on the 25th of June of 1991 and, later that year, established the duke of Crees as the King and elected a president.
