History: Early History
Twoode was originally settled by smugglers and pirates from Tasmania and the South Island of New Zealand around Orbis date 1997. They originally anchored along the coast during the summer, using it as a base to smuggle narcotics and weapons between Australia/New Zealand and Africa and South America. Eventually they engineered vessels to break ice and were able to reside in Antarctica permanently, being able to detect authorities and avoid capture there more easily. They used their money from smuggling to buy and repair old tankers and cargo ships and build harbors with villages and small power plants.

Age of Settlement
Many of the smugglers began to take wives from Africa and South America and worked towards founding cities and shipping businesses during the 2020's. This resulted in the native Twoode population having diverse ethnic backgrounds for Euro Aussies/Kiwis, black Africans and Euro/Native South Americans. English remained the primary language of the cities of Twoode, with much influence from Spanish, Swahili and Afrikaans. As the shipping companies continued to grow, many Russian and Chinese mariners who were employed by Twoodian shippers began to settle in the cities of Twoode, still forming the bulk of the minority population today.

Modern Era
Anglican Missionaries from Australia began working in Twoode in the 2030's, establishing many churches throughout the country. Trinity Cathedral College was founded by Anglicans in Iona in 2036 and remains the nation's premier educational institution to this day. Russian Orthodox monks and priests and Buddhist monks began their work in Twoode during this period too. St. Boris Cathedral in Adak was constructed by the Orthodox Church in the early 2040's. Twoode's constitution was drafted during this period, prescribing that Twoode would be ruled by a Parliament. Parliament is elected using a party-based proportional voting system, with 5 representatives from each city. Parliament elects a Premier and his/her cabinet from among themselves. The Premier and the cabinet are invested with the executive powers of the state and ultimate authority over the military. They are accountable to Parliament, which has many checks on their power including the right to call an election for their ouster at any time. Twoode's current Premier Lawrence Huddleston (Larry the Hammer), has maintained his position since May 2088. He is a retired Marine from Grimsby with moderate to center-right political leanings. Russian mariners introduced ice hockey in the 2020's. It is a national obsession, with the Twoode Hockey League and Twoodian players being internationally recognized. Twoode's national team has won a gold medal at two Winter Olympics and a silver at three.

Terrain: Twoode sits mainly on a high plateau, with the Admiralty Mountains along the coast in the east. Ice shelves are present along almost all of the coast during the winter. These shelves melt during the brief summer. Cities are built at somewhat regular intervals along the coast and are somewhat densely populated in order to conserve energy for heating. Passenger and cargo transport is almost entirely seaborne due to the difficulties of traveling across the inhospitable terrain and also as an energy conservation measure.

Description: Twoode has a market economy which is regulated by the Parliamentary Economic and Trade Committee. The committee's chairman is the Minister of Trade, who is elected by members of Parliament and a member of the Premier's cabinet. For a small nation in a remote corner of the world, Twoode engages in a tremendous amount of seaborne commerce, primarily between nations surround the Southern Ocean and in the South Pacific. The revenues from this trade provide much of the capital for economic development in Twoode. Development of domestic agriculture and industry is very limited due to the harsh Antarctic climate. Many residents engage in cottage industries to supplement their income, especially repair of damaged electrical equipment and electronics which are both purchased on the domestic market and exported to low income nations in need of cheaper electronic appliances. Small numbers of Twoode mariners still engage in smuggling and piracy, though parliament has been passing legislation and negotiating agreements with other nations for decades to discourage this.

Twoode's land forces are the Marines, an amphibious fighting force and division of the Navy. Twoode's Navy has two areas of concentration during peacetime, coastal defense and protection of commercial shipping lanes. Commonwealth Naval Academy in Skorpa was founded in 2034 by an act of Parliament.
