History: Pre-Columbian Era: Before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492, Cuba was inhabited by indigenous peoples, including the Taíno and Ciboney. Columbus claimed the island for Spain during his first voyage.

Spanish Colonial Period (1492-1898): Cuba became a Spanish colony, and its indigenous population declined rapidly due to diseases and harsh conditions. The Spanish introduced African slaves to work on sugarcane plantations. The island's economy thrived on sugar production, making it a key player in the Atlantic slave trade.

Ten Years' War (1868-1878): Cuban nationalists, seeking independence from Spanish rule, initiated the Ten Years' War. Despite not achieving full independence, the conflict set the stage for future independence movements.

Spanish-American War (1898): The United States intervened in Cuba during the Spanish-American War and defeated Spain. The Treaty of Paris (1898) granted Cuba independence but allowed the U.S. to maintain influence through the Platt Amendment.

Republic Period (1902-1959): Cuba formally became independent in 1902. The country experienced political instability, with periods of democratic governance interspersed with dictatorships. Fulgencio Batista came to power through a coup in 1952.

Cuban Revolution (1953-1959): Fidel Castro and his revolutionary forces launched a guerrilla campaign against Batista's regime. On January 1, 1959, Castro's forces successfully overthrew Batista, leading to the establishment of a socialist state.

Communist Cuba (1959-2023): Fidel Castro became the leader of Cuba, instituting a Marxist-Leninist government aligned with the Soviet Union. The U.S. imposed an embargo on Cuba, leading to strained diplomatic relations. Over the years, there were economic challenges, the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, and political shifts. Fidel Castro handed power to his brother Raúl Castro in 2008, and in 2018, Raúl stepped down, marking the end of the Castro era.

Communist Overthrow and Provisional Government (2023-2035): After the death of Miguel Díaz-Canel in 2028 and support from many western nations and the Dominican Republic, various guerilla and right-leaning elements attempted a coup on the government and began a civil war that lasted 6 months, after this war, a provisional government was set up while a new constitution was being drafted. This government stuggled as new leftist groups attempted to restore communist power, but with further western backing, these groups were violently put down. In 2035, the constitution was complete and a Federal Republic was established.

Current Republic (2035-Present): Current government overlooking Cuba.
