 Marw (or Merv) was an ancient city once the world's largest, being in the easternmost reaches of the Persian Empire and at points its historic enemy, Turan. It was described as one of thirteen perfect places in the Ahura Mazda and was home to scholars and sages of Islam. The silk road fed the city, bringing an influx of travelers from Italy to Indonesia.  Now it stands again, restored to its former glory.
