History: After the military and police suppressed peaceful protests in 20XX, people in the former New England states of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut declared independence from the United States. A period of bloody warfare left the surviving communes alive and independent, if shattered. With inspiration and hope coming from an unusual band of Celtic neo-pagans, the Brythonic Autonomous Zone was formed with anarchist principles as its form of governance.

Communication was quickly established with other leftist countries and nations, who now work with the Brythonic Autonomous Zone in solidarity. Together, these nations have formed a strong leftist bloc that will stand against the threats of capitalism, fascism, and imperialism.

Each commune has its own, independent stockpiles of resources which are given out to its people according to need. Communes have the capacity to exchange resources, though money as an instrument of trade is outlawed. In times of war, the BAZ as a whole will pool food, ammunition, and other wartime supplies together to supply it's volunteer militia.

History: The Brythonic Autonomous Zone's military is a volunteer militia force. Command structure is decided based on votes when active fighting is not occuring in that area, similar to how pirates in the 1700s would elect captains and quartermasters. These militias have proven surprisingly effective against conventional military forces, usually relying on guerilla warfare and subterfuge behind enemy lines. Harassment of the enemy, combined with building of local support via mutual aid stations and liberation of workers, are the common tools the BAZ militia uses to defeat the foe.
