04/14/2021 - Spy Restrictions Lifted, Tweaking Casualty Rates, Inactivity Deletion Schedule, and Discord Username Search

Spies Back To Normal (Mostly)

Good news! Everyone's spy counts have been restored to their levels as of our latest backup earlier today. There was a 5-6 hour period between when that backup was taken and when I accidentally overwrote everyone's spy counts, so there may be a slight discrepancy if you purchased, sold, or had spies killed during that time. But things should now be more-or-less to normal. Nothing was impacted besides your # of spies during this incident.

Search Nations by Discord Username

On a different note, we have added the ability to search nations by their Discord username on the nation search page. This, of course, only works if the nation has included their discord username in their nation information, but assuming they have it may make finding a player's nation in-game based on their Discord account a little bit easier.

Inactivity Deletion Schedule

In case you haven't noticed, we are now gaining ~500 new players daily. As a result, our total number of nations has grown dramatically over the past couple of months. To cut down on the number of “dead” accounts which can cause unnecessary strain on the server, we have updated our inactivity deletion policy, which is reflected in the Game Rules. Our goal is still to preserve players' accounts in case they are unexpectedly absent from the game, but we are now weighting the length of automatic vacation mode times against the number of cities a player has. The farther along in the game you are, the longer we'll wait for you to come back. Here is the new schedule:

  • At 31 days of inactivity, any nation with only 1 city and no active wars will be automatically deleted.
  • At 60 days of inactivity, any nation with less than 3 cities and no active wars will be automatically deleted.
  • At 90 days of inactivity, any nation with 1-5 cities will be placed into automatic Vacation Mode for 60 days. During this time, if the player logs in their nation will be automatically removed from Vacation Mode.
  • At 90 days of inactivity, any nation with 6-9 cities will be placed into automatic Vacation Mode for 90 days. During this time, if the player logs in their nation will be automatically removed from Vacation Mode.
  • At 90 days of inactivity, any nation with 10-14 cities will be placed into automatic Vacation Mode for 120 days. During this time, if the player logs in their nation will be automatically removed from Vacation Mode.
  • At 90 days of inactivity, any nation with 15-19 cities will be placed into automatic Vacation Mode for 150 days. During this time, if the player logs in their nation will be automatically removed from Vacation Mode.
  • At 90 days of inactivity, any nation with 20 or more cities will be placed into automatic Vacation Mode for 365 days. During this time, if the player logs in their nation will be automatically removed from Vacation Mode.
  • At 97 days of inactivity or greater, any nation that is not in Vacation Mode (automatic or manually entered) will be deleted for inactivity. Automatic deletion is not reversible.

Casualty Changes

We have made some changes to casualty rates as well. These changes were first proposed back in February and have had a long period for public feedback before now being pushed live. They are as follows:

Ground Battles

  • Soldiers now kill 5% more enemy soldiers (goes for attacking and defending)
  • Soldiers now kill 33% less enemy tanks (goes for attacking and defending)
  • Tanks now kill 15% more enemy soldiers (goes for attacking and defending)
  • Tanks now kill 10% more enemy tanks (goes for attacking and defending)
  • When you have Ground Control, the number of enemy Aircraft destroyed in subsequent Ground Battles has been reduced by 33%
    • For Immense Triumphs, the rate per tank decreased from 0.0075 → 0.005025
    • For Moderate Successes, the rate per tank decreased from 0.005 → 0.00335
    • For Pyrrhic Victories, the rate per tank decreased from 0.0025 → 0.001675

Airstrikes

  • Aircraft now kill 25% more Tanks in airstrikes targeting tanks. The previous kill rate was 1 Tank / Aircraft, it is now 1.25 Tanks / Aircraft
  • Aircraft now kill 10% more enemy Aircraft in dogfights (airstrikes targeting enemy aircraft.)

Naval Battles

  • Ships now kill 10% more enemy ships (goes for attacking and defending)

Espionage

  • When doing an offensive espionage operation, you will now lose 33% less attacking spies if you are caught in the operation
  • When targeting enemy spies in an ‘Assassinate Spies’ operation, you will now kill 33% less enemy spies

The Battle Simulators have been updated to reflect these updated values as well.

04/14/2021 - Temporary Situation with Spies

Hello everyone,

First, I want to fess up that I just made a big mistake a short time ago. I accidentally set everyone’s spies to 60 on the live server, when I really meant to do that on the test server for testing purposes. My apologies – I know that this is a huge error on my part. 

My intention was to check a backup of our database from this morning, however it appears that there is a permissions issue preventing me from accessing it. I’m going to be working with ss23 who has master access on the server to get that sorted out hopefully soon, and it shouldn’t be a problem to restore everyone’s spy counts to what they were as of just a few hours ago.

In the meantime, I do have some limited records that I was able to work with to restore an approximated spy count for everyone. I have records of all spy purchases and sales logged, as well as spies killed in espionage operations. However, the data on espionage operations only goes back 60 days, so unfortunately this is not a complete picture. However, it is a better stopgap solution than everyone having maxed out spies, and it should be fairly close to reality.

Once again, I am very sincerely sorry that this happened, and I have been scrambling to come up with a solution since it happened about an hour ago. Once I am able to access a copy of our backup database I will make the proper adjustments to get things back to how they should be. That does mean that in the next few hours if you purchase spies those purchases may be overwritten. I think that the effects of this will be fairly negligible, but I thought I would give fair warning ahead of time.

In the meantime, purchasing spies + espionage operations are temporarily disabled to prevent any shenanigans.

Donations have now been reset for the new month! You can now redeem up to 10 Credits for at least $200,000,000 directly in-game each month.

As a reminder about Donations, you can use up to 10 Credits per month on in-game bonuses like 1 Credit for $20,000,000 in-game money, 1 Credit for a set amount of Resources, 1 Credit for 100 Infrastructure, and 4 Credits to reset your City/Project timer. You can spend an unlimited number of Credits per month on cosmetic bonuses, like VIP, Player Ads, and Name Changes. 03/10/2021 - Show Current Top Offers, General Improvements
  • We've released a big improvement to creating new trade offers. You can now press a button "Show Current Top Offers" which will pull the lowest 5 sell offers and highest 5 buy offers for the resource you have selected. This way, if you want to undercut price effectively you won't need to jump between pages. By pulling 5 trades, you'll also be able to recognize if the current cheapest offer is way, way, below everything else as well (same for buy offers.)
  • Fixed a bug with the Average Trade Price displaying incorrectly
  • Improved the "Change Leader/Nation Name" UI. You can now change both your leader and nation name at the same time (instead of one or the other) and it will check in real time to see if the name that you want is available.
  • You can now search nations by Nation ID. You can enter in a nation ID and it will search for a strict match along with all other criteria, and you can also select to search specifically by Nation ID.

03/04/2021 - iOS App - In App Purchases Bug (& Fix)

This is for users of the App Store app for Politics and War on iOS.

In App Purchases on the iOS App

When we updated the app to version 1.0.1 there was a bug that caused in-app purchases to not get processed automatically. While we were able to fix this bug and we have pushed version 1.0.2 to the App Store, there are still some purchases coming in that do not appear to have been handled correctly.

For privacy reasons, Apple doesn't give us a list of all the transactions, unfortunately. So if you made an in-app purchase for Credits and did not receive them, please send me (Alex) a message in the game, or you can reach me via email at [email protected]. Please include a copy of your Apple receipt when you do so.

I am so sorry for the inconvenience here and we will do whatever we need to to make it right.

Facebook Login on the iOS App

On a related note, Apple now requires that we include “Sign in with Apple” in our app if we offer any 3rd party login service (i.e. Facebook login.) So while we work on implementing Sign in with Apple, we unfortunately have had to remove the Facebook register/login from the App Store app. You can still login to your account via your email address (which will be the same as your Facebook email.) If you are not sure what this email is, you can visit https://politicsandwar.com in your mobile browser where you will still be able to login with Facebook. On the Account page, you will be able to see the email address associated with your account. You can also change the email address tied to your Politics & War account there if you wish. If you do not know or can't remember your password, you can use the Forgot Password feature to reset it via your email address.
