Following a two-front engagement that resulted in Glatixburg and Shisahof being struck with nuclear bombs, the government has declared a state of emergency for the afflicted cities and their surrounding areas.
The Navy has released the following statement:
"The capital island is presently off-limits to unauthorized personnel, be they Glatixian or otherwise. Attempts to enter or leave the exclusion zone without express permission, for any reason, will be met with force. The island is highly irradiated, and order must be restored before a clean-up effort can begin."
The Navy has warned that while the island is in a state of martial law, Glatixian ground forces are unable to guarantee the safety of the tens of thousands of citizens who remain on the island. Survivors are urged to remain in underground shelters until such time that safe paths of egress are present.
Despite government orders, instances of looting and violence have been reported by aerial reconnaissance.
Relief efforts are underway, primarily in the form of airdropped supplies and coastal evacuation. However, large pockets of the population remain trapped in fallout shelters, metro areas, or other radiation-resistant structures. Discussions are underway regarding how best to retake control of the island amid the dangerous fallout.
