Tonight, a poll by the Gwlad Emrys Post has been released. This poll gives a clear indication that the Liberal government might be moving away from their core vote in order to appeal to older, Conservative voters.

The first question asked was regarding the government's handling over the past week. While, results were mixed, only 17% answered that the week was handled badly or worse by the government:

By age category, it seems that the older population is more likely to have a positive view on the Liberal Government with the middle aged category also voting heavily in favour of the government:

The most shocking result of the poll was based on the question, “how much have you been keeping an eye on the following issues?". The participants scored each issue from 1 to 10 and the results can be seen below:

It seems that the military changes by the government are viewed as less important, with the latest move from Munitions to Aluminium seen more important by the voters. However, the most interesting point is shown when you delve to the average score based on each party vote last election:

What this shows is the almost every decision this week has been more interesting for other parties' voters than for Liberal party Voters. This suggests that the current government decisions are moving away from the party base and towards appealing other parties.

Analysis

This is a blow to the government. After gaining votes this election, to hear that voters are not as interested after a week of governing is not good news. We must remember that key pledges in the Liberal Party's manifesto (e.g. Foreign Affairs Referendum and working on a Official Constitution) relies on the party being able to govern for at least a full term - probably even needing to win the next election. Hearing that voters are starting to become disinterested in the Liberal Government's decisions does not look good if these plans are to be put into action. After its rise during the election, the pound has still not reached the 2.00 mark and is nowhere near its levels a few months ago. A main pledge by the Liberals was to stabilise our economy and many are asking, is there hope?

The Government has provided the Gwlad Emrys Post with a comment regarding these findings:

“The Government is committed to work to improve lives across the nation, no matter what political affiliation. In the next few week, the government will reveal its extensive plans to stabilise the economy and ensure that the work of acting out the manifesto can take place”
