In a Surprise Announcement made by Transvaal Republiek Defence Forces, Major-General Johan Botha announced that the Transvaal Republiek will be undergoing a rigorous and extensive modernisation project, codenamed "Hoefyster".
It will involve the development of brand new, indigenously designed and manufactured military hardware. The list of planned developments include but are not limited to:
- Infantry equipment
- MBTs
- IFVs
- SPGs
- MLRS's
- Fighter aircraft
- Attack Helicopters
- Troop transports
- Various Naval Ships and Platforms
Major-General Johan Botha describes the undertaking as what is probably the largest and most ambitious military modernisation and armament effort undertaken in the region to date, and that the Kommando system will be relegated to an internal peacekeeping and paramilitary organisation to serve as emergency reserves in case of large scale war, while the regular armed forces will be increased several fold in line with the new increase of military spending to 6% of GDP.
The Major-General ended the press conference with the standard military salute and Motto, "Met God en Mauser" (Translation: With God and Mauser)
