The official info page (will be linked into national information bulletin)
Football in Vilania is huge. In fact, it is far and away our country’s most popular sport. While our national team certainly attracts lots of attention, club football is also very popular. Professional club football in Vilania is organized into a four-tier promotion and relegation league system known as the Vilanian Football League, or VFL (the official logo of the VFL is shown above). The four leagues are the Vilanian Premier League or VPL (first tier), VFL Championship (second tier), VFL Division I (third tier), and VFL Division II (fourth tier). This bulletin is an overview guide of the VFL system.
First of all, we will discuss the four leagues. The VPL has 20 teams and the three lower leagues each have 24. Promotion and relegation occur at the end of each season, and they work like this:
The bottom three teams in the Premier League are relegated to the Championship.
The top two teams in the Championship are promoted to the VPL, while the third through sixth place teams compete in a promotion playoff for the third spot. The bottom four teams are relegated to Division I.
The top three teams in Division I are promoted to the Championship, while the fourth through seventh place teams compete in a promotion playoff for the fourth spot. The bottom four teams are relegated to Division II.
The top three teams in Division II are promoted to Division I, while the fourth through seventh place teams compete in a promotion playoff for the fourth spot. The bottom two teams are relegated to the Vilanian National League (VNL), the fifth tier of Vilanian football and the highest league that is not fully professional.

The VFL also has three tournament competitions throughout the season. The biggest is the VFL Cup, which is played between all 92 clubs in the four divisions. Then, there are the two league cups. The first, the VPL Cup, is played between the 20 Premier League matches, and the second, the VFL Trophy, is played between the 72 teams in the Championship, Division I, and Division II.
Here are the three cup logos:
The final competition is arguably the highest stakes. It is called the VFL Grand Final, and is essentially the game that decides the best football club in Vilania for each season. In this match, the winner of the Premier League faces the winner of the VFL Cup at the National Stadium. If one team wins both competitions, they face the runner up of the Premier League instead.

Each season begins on the second Sunday of March with the VFL Community Shield, which features the two most recent Grand Final winners facing off at the National Stadium. Here is that logo:
