Halloween Is Coming

On a fresh Saturday morning in October, the people of Beroli, the capital of Zaji, are walking through the streets of the downtown. Halloween is some weeks away and the citizen are already shopping sweets, some with cute pumpkin-bags and kids glancing at the purchases of the parents and strangers. A few pumpkins can be seen when passing residental houses. It seems like a perfect day to go outside because of the refreshing air and the sea besides the city, little did the people know they are being watched by someting bad.

A Morning Like Any Other

Alice, a young woman in her early 20's, living in Beroli. Today, she's strolling through downtown like every morning. She is enjoying the sweet smell of the candies and the fresh breeze of the sea nearby. Suddenly Alice notices a familiar face, at first, she can't identify who it is, a few seconds later that person changing their mimic and shouts: "Alice! Alice!". Now Alice knew who it can is, it's Alice's friend Patricia she'd just met, Alice could hear it from Patricia's sweet voice. They both work at a IT company in south-western Beroli, with direct view on the sea. Praticia started telling Alice about her plans for Halloween: She is planning to invite her family from eastern Zaji for a family party with Halloween decoration everywhere.

The next day, Alice prepares herself for her morning walk, she hopes that there is still that nice atmosphere from yesterday. As she leaves and walked her first dozen meters, she quickly realizes something is off.

The Beginning Of Terrible Times

As she continues walking, she recognizes there are way less people walking around than usual and that group of beggars apparently lost one guy, normally there are three but today, there are only sitting two guys. The fresh breeze from the sea is also missing, instead there is like no wind and it smells kinda weird, a bit like death. Slowly she realizes she is in danger and so she turns around and goes home, the few people that are there suddenly watch her with an empty face like they had lost the feeling to live. Alice arrived home, she put her shoes and jacket away and went into the bathroom to wash her hands and face but as she looked up in the mirror and realized that face isn't hers, she doesn't have blue eyes, she doesn't have blond hairs, this person in the mirror isn't her.

Alice wakes up, it was a dream. She takes her time to get up and she looks at herself in the mirror and realizes her face is normal again. Alice starts her daily walking round through Beroli and is reliefed that it's as crowded as usual. Though, one of the three beggars is still missing, Alice tries to ignore it but she has to think about that nightmare she had. As she gets closer to the alley where the guys lay, she notices a strange, untypical smell, and Alice sees something orange in the dark in a corner, she takes a good look recognizing it is a pumpkin with a creepy face, did the homeless people just carve it? That'd be weird, why would they do it and not putting it out closer to public? Was the third guy murdered by a budding serial killer? All these thoughts are starting to worry Alice a lot. She went to the beach to clear her mind, and after, she went home and prepared her stuff for work tomorrrow.

The next day, she meets Patricia at her workplace and tells her about all the weird things that happened to her last sunday. Patricia tried to calm Alice telling her that that one beggar might've 'just' passed and the other homless guys made a pumpkin as keepsake that he died shortly before Halloween. However, Alice keeps being curious about it.

Happy Halloween

Only a week until Halloween, some parents are preparing the costume for their children and everything smells like candy. Now, there are way more pumpkins standing around, but this year, Halloween will be completely different.

Lately, there have been a few reports of people missing, some for 30 hours, some for several days. Patricia is worried about her family who will arrive in three days, she thinks that these people that have been missing for days are already dead.

Some days have passed, most of the missing people were found dead, everyone was beaten and hit to death with a baseball bat. The police is on high alert, they also found out that on every crime scene, there was a carved pumpkin laying within the radius of fifteen meters, one for every victim. The police advises everyone to stay at home and reports about suspecious activity is welcomed. The questions they have are; is it just one guy or a group of killlers and are the victims special targets or just random people? Patricia’s worries rise and rise and her family arrives tomorrow, Alice tries to comfort her friend. “There haven’t been any reports that children have been murdered by that guy or guys, do you really think the killer, or killers would kill an innocent kid, Pat’?”, Alice said to Patricia.

Patricia’s family, her mom, dad and 10-year-old brother, arrived in Beroli. They are at a parking lot, about a kilometer from Patricia’s house. They couldn’t drive straight to the house because there are many non-car streets in Beroli to reduce CO2 emissions. It is currently 6PM, they wanted to come earlier but they couldn’t due to work and a long way from the part of Zaji where they live to Beroli. Patricia’s mom is holding her phone in her hand, on her screen the adress of Patricia’s home and a message reading “Please watch yourselves when arriving in Beroli, love you.”. They weren’t paying attention to their surrounding. Suddenly, they get hit by a baseball bat on the back of the head. They died after getting hit another 36 times and the killers took the unlocked phone of the mom and they are on their way to the house.

20 minutes later, Alice hears the door ringing, she stays at Patricia’s home today to meet the family.  Together, they walked to the door, looked through the peephole, but they don’t see anyone, so they decide to take a step out and look if there’s some tomfoolery going on outside. Not a very wise decision, they both get a punch in their face and fall on the ground. The guys were carrying the both women into the house and killed them, like they did with all the other victims of the Halloween Killing, at least they thought they were dead. Patricia survived the attack and after recovering from the wounds, she could help the police identifying the culprits, though, she will never mentally recover from the loss of her beloved family and her bestfriend. The killers picked out people that apparently weren’t paying attention and killed them when no one had sight of them. Days after the murderers were identified, Patricia commited suicide.

Since then, every year will remember the victims and families of the victims of the Beroli Halloween Killing on the 31st of October.
