LIVE: Polling day in Dyfed for councils and Dyfed Assembly

Emrys the Great calls this a "day for democracy". Elections in the rest of Gwlad Emrys expected to follow next week

Today is polling day across Dyfed as the voters decide on local authorities and on the Dyfed Assembly makeup.

Voting opened at 9am and will close at 9pm tonight. The results are expected to come in overnight and throughout Wednesday.

Voting at his count in Caerdydd South, Emrys the Great urged people to vote:

"This is a day for democracy. Let's show the world how Gwlad Emrys can bounce back. I call these the most important elections ever in our history, and I urge everyone eligible to vote immediately".

The population of Dyfed stands currently at an estimate of 245,631, with 201,418 of these eligible to vote.

Turnout in recent elections in Dyfed has been relatively low at an average of around 62% (or 124,879 people). It is hoped turnout will be higher this election.

5 main parties are standing in this election:

  1. The Labour Party
  2. The Conservative Party
  3. The Green Party
  4. The Social Party
  5. ARP Lite

We have also seen the largest amount of independent candidates standing than for any other election.
