Greenland Election 2022: Registration week now complete, President Slayer announces he WILL run for re-election

This last week, candidates announced their candidacy for different public offices. From this point on, no new candidates can participate in the 2022 elections.

        For the Presidential race, there are a record 36 candidates for office of the President. When split by party, there are 5 candidates from the National Democratic Party of Greenland, 6 candidates from the Libertarian Party of Greenland, 4 candidates from the Greenlandic Union of Communists, 7 candidates from the Arctic Socialist Party of Greenland, 10 candidates from the Nationalist-Liberal Party of Greenland, 3 independents, and 1 candidate from the Nationalist-Conservative Party of Greenland. President Slayer is the 1 candidate from the NCPG and is the first Presidential candidate to run unopposed in their own party when up for re-election. 

For the Department of Legislation, 94 seats are contested while 6 are running unopposed. All 14 of the Mayoral elections are contested. 

The election days will be at different times, with the Mayoral elections being held on July 30th, (only the 14 biggest cities in Greenland are having mayoral elections this year) Legislator election day will be October 26-29, and the Presidential election rounds 1-3 will be held from November 14th to November 28th. Although there are 36 candidates for President, by the first round it will be narrowed down to 1 candidate per party, although the eliminated can continue as an independent. Over the next few weeks, we will introduce you to some of the candidates.
