I'm concerned about planes. I'm not at war atm, so how badly did you nerf them?

Pretty much this, how bad did you kill our titanium-plated planes with nuclear rockets Sheepy?

  • The RNG for infrastructure damage has been tightened significantly across the board. There should be much less variation in how much damage your attacks do now.
  • Casualties have been lessened in many instances, especially when it comes to the damage that aircraft can do in airstrikes

I'll be posted an announcement here in a few days unveiling the Battle Simulator, a set of pages that you can use to simulate attacks based on scenarios you enter yourself (number of units, attack type, etc.) Along with that, I'll release the relevant formulas for this update. Expect that soon.

Formulas pls.

I need to write up a comprehensive list of formulas, still, but for the sake of easiness, you guys can have access to the Battle Simulator. Here are the pages.

If you're worried about your aircraft, try a variety of scenarios on the BattleSim: Airstrike page and you'll see how well they do against what and in what numbers, etc. You can even track your stats.

The first link is broken (it links to /battlesim/ground/), the correct link is:

Also, thanks for making these available so quickly.

Just ran the numbers for espionage, you severely nerfed spy assassinations. It used to be that if you had 224 spies, you could assassinate 100 enemy spies with 99% success rate. That percentage dropped to 66%. If spy battles were similar to wars, that would be fine, but that means you have a 33% chance of failure. Which means loss of your own spies without assassinating a single one of the enemy. Not to mention that the numbers punched in doesn't even come near to the 50% of the enemy spies killed.

Edit: The outcome is that spies are now once again useless, and you might as well remove the CIA project. The amount of money it takes to drop an enemy's number of spies (along with how many days) is now so insurmountable that it is pointless to use spies offensively. I somewhat agree that spy assassinations need to be nerfed, but these numbers are so severe that it may be just pointless for anyone to build more than 50 spies. The offensive capabilities of spies are now limited to the only real successful operations: sabotaging soldiers (which, if the cap remains at 3000, is also pointless) and gathering intelligence.

This is a randomly generated report of 224 spies against 100 at Q&D (66% success):

You successfully assassinated enemy spies in SIMULATED NATION. Your spies killed 29 enemy spies. Your agents were caught and identified by SIMULATED NATION's counter-intelligence forces. The operation cost you $2,240,000.00 and 10 of your spies were captured and executed. Save this information somewhere safe; after you leave this page you will not be able to see this intelligence report again without executing another operation.

The monetary costs (including spies lost) is $2.74m, while the costs by the enemy is only $1.4m. As per the mechanics of the game, increasing to normal precautions does not increase the amount of spies killed. Purely from an economic stand-point, even if the operation was (in a 2 out of 3 chance) successful, you still spent $2.2m to kill barely a fourth of the enemy force. By the way, 29 out of 100 spies is the maximum number of spies you can kill in one operation, regardless of how many more you can throw at them.

Spy operations are already incredibly expensive. Decreasing the odds for success only serves to increase the costs by the attacker. The new overhaul now benefits the defender so much that doing any sort of offensive spy operation is just a massive waste of money. I challenge anyone here to run through the simulations, and tell me otherwise.

Edit: P.S. Love the simulators. Those are awesome.

It's a useful mental exercise. Through the years, many thinkers have been fascinated by it. But I don't enjoy playing. It was a game that was born during a brutal age when life counted for little. Everyone believed that some people were worth more than others. Kings. Pawns. I don't think that anyone is worth more than anyone else. Chess is just a game. Real people are not pieces. You can't assign more value to some of them and not others. Not to me. Not to anyone. People are not a thing that you can sacrifice. The lesson is, if anyone who looks on to the world as if it was a game of chess, deserves to lose.

900 uncontested planes do less infra damage than a missile. Seems legit. The ships are no longer air-fodder either.

Looks like missile-whoring with zero military will be an even more valid tactic to hurt the enemy.

Anyone with a iron dome and a bunch of planes will still smash you. Although, yes, 2 out of every 4 missiles will probably hit.

Wonderful

You have nerf planes and spies to basically nothing. Congrats, peace has come to P&W at long last! Yea boredom!

But, i mean really? I ran the battle sims for both spies and planes. it is now pointless to even have a spy force, and even more pointless to have a large plane force. Here is the air strike using the battle sim for 810 planes(max planes for a 9 city nation) attacking a defender with 0 planes and hitting a 2000 infra city:

You ordered an airstrike upon the nation of SIMULATED NATION led by SIMULATED LEADER. The attack was an immense triumph. Your forces lost 0 aircraft, while SIMULATED LEADER's defenders lost 0 aircraft. You used 202.50 munitions and gasoline executing the attack. The attack destroyed 282.05 infrastructure in the city of SIMULATED CITY.

For the amount of gasoline and munitions use it is a complete waste and is honestly pointless. It is disgusting that this keeps happening. Why do you keep bring the damage down lower and lower for everything? The system was fine the way it was, and did not need to be nerf in this way. I am begging you, stop this. Stop trying to fix something that is not broken. Please return the spy back to what they were, and please un-nerf everything. I mean really, what is next? are you just going to remove our military units all together?

The spy system is already pretty gamey.  Meaning that spies really reward know-how more than sheer strength of numbers.  I would take 500 spies in the hands of people who knew what they were doing and in a proper spread for espionage attacks over 1000 spies in the hands of people who had never launched an op.  Every time.  Because the 500 would win, I assure you.

I disagree with my friends that these changes make spies useless.  What they do is make them more of an arcane and elite weapon.  They make them even more gamey.  Now some gameyness is good because it punishes pay to win.  But I think this is too arcane and requires too much expertise.  Allow me to put it this way: After punching some numbers into your espionage simulator and toying around in excel, I have found a way to exploit these new formulas, without even knowing precisely what they are, to absolutely crush people who do not know how to run a similar exploitation.  The exploitation requires a great deal of know-how about the system, good timing and coordination, manpower, and spies (all things which new players, coincidentally, often lack).  I entreat you to suspend these changes and allow me to explain it to you.  Otherwise, I have the expertise, men, spies, and money to demonstrate my point very effectively.

Love,

Ashland

I'm an air specialist, so it's the other way around. Still, even with the ID, I would consider chugging missiles instead of wasting 225 gas/mun to do around 300ish damage. The building destruction of a missile is an added bonus on top, and you can chug them even when you are losing.

For anyone saying planes have been nerfed hard infra damage wise, you're completely wrong. Sure, you used to be able to do more damage with a single attack if you were lucky, but the average damage is now much higher because the rng has been tightened so much. And spy damage has been reduced so you can't kill 50 days worth of spies in a single attack as that's ridiculous.

The only real nerf for AF is against ships as it should be.
