BILJANI SPRINGS - Dreamistan refugees in West New York were humbled by the generous gift with WNY government officials accepting the ceremonial check they received (on behalf of the refugees) totaling upwards of $300,000 USD during the seventh inning stretch of game three of the charity baseball series played to raise funds for their benefit. The funds included concessions revenue as well as special merchandise and ticket sales. §д11,606,045 in Slavic Denars was raised from gate alone, the equivalent of $216,000 USD. More than 23,000 tickets were sold across the three games. Tickets were $25 per person with $20 per ticket going to the refugees. Game-worn jerseys and caps as well as bases, dirt, lineup cards, and other memorabilia from the series will be auctioned off next week following authentication with those proceeds also a part of fundraising efforts. Players and managers also wore special patches commemorating the series. Foxes General Manager Connie Mack was pleased that the teams were able to compete. "It went off without a hitch," he began. "The atmosphere was great, the weather cooperated pretty much, we had a stellar umpiring crew. I look forward to further exhibitions games here again as well as at NBT Bank Stadium."

Game one of the series kicked off on a gorgeous day from Cafe Porta Stadium. The teams traded a pair of runs in the fifth with a Clyde Gibson two-run homer in the top half of the inning for the WNY Yankees by the center fielder. The Foxes answered with two outs off the bat of second baseman Kosuke Sato to score left fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from third followed by a walk to center fielder Mike Trout still with the bases loaded to bring home third baseman Stavre Badzanakovski. It remained knotted up at two until extra innings where right fielder Ichiro crossed the plate after a bases loaded walk to first baseman JT Snow with nobody out. Hyun- Jin Ryu pitched a 127 pitch complete game and earned the 3-2 win.

Sato and Ichiro were pivotal to the extra base hit count in game 2, but not before Gibson hit another Yankee homer in the top of the third. The Foxes responded the next half inning when catcher Ivan Rodriguez smashed the 3-0 delivery from DeQuan Morgan for a solo shot. Biljani Springs would double their tally to take the lead in their half of the fifth when Sato blasted a moon shot over the wall in left-center field that almost cleared the canopy. Middle reliver Chad Bradford came in to pitch for the top of the seventh but not before starter Randy Johnson was pinch hit for by reserve third baseman Kelly Gruber in that previous half inning. Then after the stretch, Ichiro singled past a diving Ernesto McMaster at third with the ball just past his reach for the base hit, scoring shortstop David Eckstein. The next batter Sato managed a suicide squeeze to bring home Snow. Bradford closed the door on the series with a 17 pitch inning having faced four batters, giving him the save and the 4-1 victory credited to Johsnon.

Christy Mathewson took the mound for Biljani Springs in the series finale. He went toe to toe with West New York counterpart Andy Pettite through two innings. Sato, the hero from game two, smashed his second long ball of the series into the right field bleachers in the third on the first pitch of the at bat. In the sixth, Mike Trout knocked a lazer of a line drive through the left side of the infield for a triple after the ball caromed off the left field wall near the foul pole at the 325 sign and rolled into the left center field power alley to score Sato from first base. WNY catcher Wayne Simmons joined in on the home run parade in the series in the top of the seventh inning. More insurance runs for the Foxes were coming, however. Manager Sparky Anderson called on set up man Joaquin Soria too get his side through the next half inning. Soria did his job and helped the offense get back to work. JT Snow had his 2-1 pitch hit the right field foul pole to score himself and Sato to make the score 4 to 1 through eight. Having doubled their run total, Anderson sent in closer Dennis Eckersley to finish the job for the 4-1 win and the series sweep.

Anderson provided remarks after each game regarding the team performances, but was quick to note the unfortunate circumstance after series conclusion. "It's too bad the crowd didn't get to see Mariano Rivera at his best in Game One or at all in the rest of the series for that matter. That was unfair that the unearned run had to be charged to him in the loss, but the whole of game was was a great showdown." There was also concern about the second game's conclusion. "I know the scoreboard was placed in left center for that reason, but I was getting nervous that sunset could be an issue for the batters and the fans. But we finished before it would have been a real problem and it proved that the positioning of it in left centerfield was perfect." When asked about the Foxes upcoming trip to the postseason, "this exhibition was important considering most of our players didn't get to represent their countries in the Olympics. It's well known that I wish the Prva Liga scheduled regular season games during the Olympics, but so many players in the league are from Dobromesto, which is great, but the Olympics are almost a month-long holiday for all sports. I'm disappointed for Stavre to not represent Dobromesto for the first time, but he's still young and can have three or four more chances. I'm sure he'll get his opportunity."
