Emperor Jones Founds The Djonian Astronomical Research Agency

During a standard Council meeting Emperor Jones finally brought forth his long anticipated proposal to form Djonia's space administration. This news is being celebrated all across the Empire as supporters from both sides of the space debate are satisfied with the compromise the Councils have come to.

Djonia is often referred to as a nation of scientists and artisans. After all less than 1% of our population believes in 'higher powers' or an afterlife. Our entertainment media focuses on scientific advancements more than it does traditional media. It comes as no surprise to anyone that a country with such a unanimous view on the subject would want to create an agency within the government dedicated to expanding the space sciences.

However, Djonia is also a nation of militarists. The military is the largest employer in the country and with increasing wars occurring against Djonia's allies the military budget has also seen exponential growth in recent days. The debate has been that creating the Djonian Astronomical Research Agency (DARA) would substantially cut into military spending and leave both Djonia and its allies in a weakened state. This point was emphasized by the military council during meetings. The compromise has been negotiated by Emperor Jones.                                                           

"The creation of DARA would lead to other possible projects that will give Djonia a significant military edge," he argued, "Satellites, counter-missile defense systems, etc. will all become available to us."

When questioned about budgetary concerns by the Military Council, Jones I said that cutting military spending is inevitable no matter what project the Empire focuses on, but that he may be able to increase taxes so that less money would need to be taken from the military.

The Civil Council has agreed to an increase in taxes with little resistance to the notion.

"We understand that with increasing threats the military is concerned about funds. We are more than willing to increase taxes to relieve these concerns. After all, this is something that the Djonian people have shown their support in time, and time again. A tax increase is a sacrifice Djonians have voiced they're willing to make," said Councilwoman Lisa Cunningham.

After these assurances were made the vote was held. The final count is shown below.
