Princess Mirabai is a living symbol of the movement for women's equality in Beistumian society.

In the 1530s, women faced social inequality and little political power. This was because patriarchy was still strong at the time.

Mirabai saw all this and decided to fight in any way she could to bring about change. The first was the religious vow that she would never marry, and would be devoted to Krishna (who she said was her only husband).

Through her religious devotion and generosity to the people, she won the admiration and support of the population and religious institutions.

She traveled around the country, inspiring women to seek to be treated equally, and to fight for it if necessary.

When she became Queen, Mirabai initiated social reforms that were the basis for our society treating women equally.

After her death, every year women gather in front of the palace with a candle each to pay tribute to the Princess.
