TEAM HISTORY
Established on October 22nd, 2023, the New Ghaza Sunbirds were a test project for the Council of Ministers and the Royal Family of the Kingdom of New Ghaza. Historically, baseball has not been a sport that has been popular in the Middle-East. This presented an incredible opportunity and a high risk for the nation and the investors.
With the entrance into the OMLB in Season III, the team was bought by Taha Sports Holdings. Taha Sports Holdings was founded by Saeed Taha, the current CEO of Sunbird Financial. Taha and the New Ghaza Minister of Sport, Mostafa Zayed, completed renovated and upgraded Handala Field from a small field that seated 2,500 spectators to the massive 30,000 max capacity ballpark you see today. Multiple youth programs were developed around the nation in order to foster local talent and build development camps for sport sustainability. The Sunbirds organization has become a leader in the region in the sport of baseball with their community events, youth development programs and massive financial investment.
The Sunbirds were a pre-dominantly Middle-Eastern only team prior to the entrance of OMLB. Taha vowed to get the Sunbirds on the international stage and have since expanded their brand garnering signings from professional players from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, South Korea and more. Though the record doesn't reflect success, yet, the Sunbirds organization are poised to continue influencing the sport in the region while pursuing the ultimate prize - the OMLB Championship!
