The Novus Atlanticus | Overseas Territory in Madeira Established

(NNABC) - After eyeing new lands for a while, the government has finally made their move. Mundusia has officially claimed Madeira as their own and made the lands into a Mundusian Overseas Territory of Dependency. The colonization of Madeira was done yesterday and announced today. According to reports, the people who inhabited the lands were friendly and shook hands with our division that was sent to occupy the island temporarily. A language barrier, however, prevented complete communication. Thankfully, some Mundusian words were similar in definition to the language spoken. As thus, complete miscommunication was not present.

A flag was shortly put up in what is soon to be the central administration of the Overseas Territory. This flag will symbolically mark the first of possibly many Mundusian colonies to come. The blue represents the sky, while the white represents the waves. In the center, the Great Mundusian Star can be seen behind the coat of arms of the territory. The Pole Star is just slightly off to the right.

After some statistical research, the division found that the islands had long laid unclaimed by any nation. As such, an independent culture had brewed in the lands. Shockingly, this culture was found to be not so different from most pre-balkanization European cultures. This brought a large amount of possible data about the past of Orbis, and inspired some historians who were with the division to conspire on what could've truly happened to cause the Great Balkanization.

A governor still needed to be chosen, disregarding all of this information, however. At the recommendation of the Senate, Senator Lukas Georgien of the New Trader's Party was sent to the islands via helicopter. He is scheduled to hold a meeting for all of the islanders by next year. He also promises to make the territory "economically rich and valuable to the Federation."

Speaking of economics, the Kranim is currently being integrated into the territory. Statistics showed that the island could've had an estimated GDP per Capita of $36,423. Most of this stems from the agricultural growth the island seems to have had. A large, abandoned port was also found on the main island which is expected to be restored no later than June of 2097. Along with this, a ruined hydroelectric power station was also found on the main island, but it will take until 2098 to fully restore it.

Overall, this will be a step towards greatly developing our rising economy. President Kopington also congratulated this but worries that Mundusia may be going down a path of no return soon. "It [Mundusian War] started with just one colony too. I do not wish for that to happen again." stated President Kopington during our interview with him. Hopefully, this small move will not create conflict yet again.
