Panama Canal Dealings

Earlier this week, diplomats from the United Imperium, Sedrosian Empire, and Ajako Confederation met to discuss the matter of the Panama Canal. In a gesture of friendship, the Imperium was offered the rights to the Panama Canal and surrounding territory by the Sedrosian Empire. While very generous, Secretary of State Katie Soldacher was initially very skeptical about the deal. The Imperium does not have major security concerns in the region, and Regan was concerned about potentially having to take over the governance of an entirely new region. However, there were also the economic considerations to think about. After negotiation, it was agreed that Ajako Confederation would take over the region of Panama, but control of the Panama Canal would remain with the United Imperium, balancing the economic benefits across the two nations. Secretary Soldacher went on record after the deal to thank both the Sedrosians and Ajakoans for their support and unwavering allyship.

Imperium, Sedrosian, and Ajakoan Diplomats Discussing the Results of the Successful Deal with One Another

Imperium Diplomats Help Avert Crisis in the Mediterranean

Over the past few days, a crisis erupted in the Mediterranean, as the Lunorians and Italians nearly went to war over a piece of disputed land in Iberia. The land dispute centered around Andalusia, Murcia, and Valencia, three Spanish provinces. Both the Lunorians and Italians claimed all three provinces, which resulted in increased tensions between the two nations. This was compounded further by the Lunorian claim to the Balearic Islands, which the Italians had a previous claim to.

What really escalated the conflict was the signing of an MDP between the Soviet Federation and the Italians. With the Lunorians allied to the Dutch and the Sedrosians, the regional conflict was threatening to escalate into a global conflict. Initially, President Regan was reluctant to aid the Lunorians by sending troops, but he did signal that the Imperium was supporting the Lunorians both in terms of diplomacy and in terms of combat material. The potential for major powers to get involved meant that massive loss of life was potentially pending in Europe.

In order to prevent a conflict from breaking out, the Imperium sent diplomats to the Hague to meet with the Soviets, Italians, Lunorians, Dutch, Koreans, and Sedrosians. Over the course of a few days, Secretary Soldacher and Imperium diplomats played a critical role in proposing treaties which helped de-escalate tensions between the two nations. In particular, the Imperium and the Netherlands insisted on the full control of Andalusia and Murcia for the Lunorians because of their legal precedent for control of those territories. On the other hand, the Soviets insisted on control of the Balearic islands for the Italians. After extensive negotiations, the nations came to a full compromise that satisfied both nations. These are the contents of that compromise:

Treaty of the Hague:
Article 1. Territories of Murcia and Andalusia go to Lunoria
Article 2. City of Valencia goes to Italy
Article 3. Any unclaimed territories in Iberia go to Lunoria
Article 4. Disputed Islands go to Italy
Article 5. Lunoria and Italy sign a two-year NAP
Article 6. Italy is allowed to have a 1000 man, 50 armored vehicle, 35 plane, 5 ship garrison in Valencia
Article 7. Italian breach of treaty will result in TUI military action
Article 8. Lunorian breach of treaty will result in Soviet military action
Article 9. Neither TUI or Soviet will acknowledge their alliances in the event that their respective ally breaks the NAP

United Imperium Secretary of State Katie Soldacher at the Discussions of the Lunoria-Italy Peace Talks in the Hague

Ultimately, the peace deal was a massive success for peace in Europe. As the APSA-UEC war comes to a grinding halt, it is good news for everyone that another bloody and violent war of major powers did not break out in Europe again. The success of these peace talks marks a massive milestone in the work of the diplomatic corps of the United Imperium for a more peaceful and stable world.

The work of Imperium diplomats in both Europe and Central America serves as a valuable reminder of the importance of a strong peace corps to a nation's strength and security.

OOC UPDATE: FOLLOWING FURTHER NEGOTIATIONS, THE IMPERIUM, AJAKO, AND THE GRAVEYARD FLEET CEDED PANAMA TO CRUZEIRO.

Does Italy own Sicily?

Also unrelated but I should've asked you a while ago, wtf do you own? Not the JGP, but you personally.

I own the lower 48. Everyone in the JGP owns their respective part of the lower 48.

It's kind of like the US federal government and Guam own the same land but Guam basically has full autonomy. Same principle but for the lower 48
