The High Assembly has recently moved to accept Turnala, previously know officially as mining outpost 2#, as a proper city in the Trutan Hegemony. This change come after month of protests by non-citizen residents in the area and a lengthy inquiry by the Bureau of Internal Affairs to see if proper requirement have been met. Calls from the Trimulate Banking Group and several politicians to begin diversifying away from a mining focused economy are also suspected to have played a major role in its acceptance.
As a proper city, Turnalan residents are now free to begin pursuing full citizenship, and the city will be granted a spot in congress. Residents will also be granted greater access to healthcare and public educational resources over time.
This decision comes on the heels of the recent decision by congress to cut government grants to the National Mining Sydicate in favor of the newly proposed Economic Development Board, which resulted in thousands being put out of work in the region, which also left many residence having their N.M.S. Membership removed, leaving them with no official political power. Luckily the E.D.B has announced plans to build up the retail and banking sectors in the region, which should help turn the tide against unemployment and political disenfranchisement.
