The French began digging tunnels, constructing siege towers, and launching relentless bombardment against the fort. Meanwhile, the defenders of the fort resisted the onslaught. Weeks turned into months as the siege dragged on. The defenders, though facing dwindling supplies and harsh conditions, clung to their positions, frustrating the French's attempts to capture the fort.
