Reflecting on our 1st Global

An alliance’s first war is always a make or a break moment. Your foreign affairs standing, your growth trajectory, your entire momentum going forward gets defined by this initial conflict. And we lost. There is no sugarcoating reality, but it is worth looking at the actual situation of the alliance. How did we do in Dodge This (GW28) and what can we do better going forward?

  • Foreign Affairs
    • While most would chalk up a defeat in a war as a glaring foreign affairs loss, this is not an absolute truth and the results speak louder than trends. We entered GW 28 in July as a protectorate of Singularity and we entered September with a Mutual Defense treaty. The casus belli of Dodge This were not aimed at The Golden Horde, nor were we even required to enter as per our Protectorate status. We entered because we thought it the right, and fun, thing to do and the results already speak for themselves.
  • Growth Trajectory
    • If Adam wins at Keno a few more times, I’ll finally get C41
    • Ultimately, we took a lot of damage in Global War 28 and our net was not particularly impressive. That translates to a lot of infra which should need to be rebuilt. But at the same time, many of us came from Requiem which had enjoyed nearly a year of peace. High infra counts, way too high infra counts, were abundant and will not be rebuilt and personal banks were in strong positions. Burnt resources are a pittance in this era of PnW and the alliance bank is healthy. Our trajectory is unchanged.
  • Momentum
    • Momentum is always a difficult metric to quantify. We can always judge after the fact if our momentum was maintained, but looking at the here and now, we still maintain our excitement internally. Our community continues to grow in both size and scope and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. We can take the time to recognize what could have been done better, but also recognize the successes that occurred and build on that.

"Overall, I'm happy with the effort that a lot of my members have put out. There is still room for improvement, or as I see it, there's ALWAYS room to improve. We'll be focusing on that in the next conflict we find ourselves in." ~Buorhann, Great Khan of The Golden Horde

Individual Profile - Pablo

Current High Khan of Military Affairs for The Golden Horde (TGH). Previously Head of Econ for Requiem and numerous High Gov positions in the Syndicate, among other positions.

Salvarity: Hello Pablo! Thank you very much for taking the time to speak with me today. First things first, some simple logistics. What's your Discord name, in-game name, and are there any major previous identities you had?

Pablo: Hello Salvy! It’s not an issue, happy to have the opportunity to be interviewed! I’m donpabby/Pablo on discord, and Killua in game haha, and not really, I have always been Pablo, I have had Killua and Bran Stark in game, but no one really ever called me by that.

Salvarity: Now The Golden Horde [TGH] is a pretty new development and I know you've been in the game a long time. Any notable prior alliances and prior roles in those alliances?

Pablo: Whew haha, I have been all over the place. I started in an alliance called The Chola, it was a small group of players from India, it was protected by TS, later on it got big and got an MDP with them. When Syndisphere got too big, our leaders decided to merge with Brotherhood of Clouds, a similar sized alliance, which was also part of Syndisphere, with this Zodiac was born and we became a core member of what was going to be the infamous bloc of The Inquisition. Due to various reasons, we decided to call its quits and merge into someone else, which ended up being Black Knights. Due to differences in ideology, I went to TS, which I had had an amicable relationship with them. I was a member and then high gov there until last year, when I left with other government members to found Requiem, sort of a splinter alliance led by Partisan to shake things up politically. Unfortunately, he got caught up by IRL and eventually under the leadership of Buo, we decided to refound The Golden Horde. I have been in some other micros and places, but I was there for a short period of time, and were just bridges for the timeline I outlined above.

Salvarity: A pretty long and impactful history, approximately what year did you start playing?

Pablo: I started playing during December, 2015. Time goes fast so quickly lol

Salvarity: Any history in the other nationsims out there?

Pablo: Not really, I have always been a nerd of politics and nation sims, so I found P&W through google. When I found it, it led to me games like Cybernations, but unfortunately (or fortunately), it was in a dead stage.

Salvarity: Good to hear that you're not a super boomer at least then

Enough personal history and logistics. Lets talk about the present: TGH

You already mentioned you came here by way of Requiem, as did myself. Now, we all had the option of simply leaving and not taking part. What made you choose to stay and participate in TGH?

Pablo: I liked the project Buo presented to all of us, he wanted to do things differently and looked like a much needed change of rhythm/pace . It was a close call for me, as I had always wanted to see how was the community and membership dynamics in major alliances I hadn’t had the chance to be part of, but the tie breaking was that if I hadn’t joined TGH, some other people might have taken a different decision too, which might have led this to a dead end, which would had been super sad, because we had a very good leader and government line up. It boiled down to that, plus very similar internal dynamics that we had on Requiem, that I also liked.

Salvarity: Definitely agreed that our gov line-up here is strong. A lot of experienced folks and also some fresh blood that can go far. Who in TGH are you most excited to work with?

Pablo: I think I am excited to work with everyone haha but if you make me pick, it would be Buo. He probably doesn’t know, but I used to hate him haha, just as I hated Partisan, because of their attacks on Zodiac and Inquisition, when they were a thing. While I was on the receiving end back then, I have to recognize he knows what he does and is a capable leader. (I guess I just have Stockholm). Adam and Itachi are proven and capable people I have worked with in the past, and Floyd is also being on top of things, but I would say the most enigmatic is Buo. Looking forward to see where he leads us.

Salvarity: That'll be quite a revelation when this interview gets published.

Now, you're head of Milcom and our 1st war just ended. Any major revelations or plans for the future?

Pablo: Shiho if you are reading this I miss you

All jokes aside, I think we had a solid performance, even though the conditions in which we entered the war were not ideal. We were a week or two old, and had the Milcom head post vacant, we didn’t have a pre established structure and initially we mostly went with the flow. What was definitely a major advantage to us is that most of us know what to do, we have enough war experience and knowledge that we aren’t super dependent on the Milcom structure.

I stepped up a bit into the war, with two purposes:

Cover the gaps we might have on the tech side to make Milcom easier.

Train the next generation and develop a foundation for the department.

I used to run Milcom in TS for a while, but the time I had back then to dedicate to the game, versus the one I have now, it’s quite different (yes, Don Pabby is a boomer now). Nonetheless, I think I have enough to keep us up and running, and help our current staff to develop their abilities.

I’m looking forward for IA start up recruitment, I want to get the color purges back onboard, which will serve as a main instrument for milcom training, for both our members and staff, which will allows us to be more war ready on the next conflicts.

Salvarity: Good solid plan, definitely in agreement about the IA recruitment push, I think that'll do wonders for the alliance.

Now, if you weren't head of Milcom here, what would you rather be doing? Gamplay-wise

Pablo: I did Econ and Tech for years, I think I would enjoy any of those departments, I know we don’t have a tech department, but who knows, maybe at some point we make it.

Salvarity: PabbyNet > ItachiNet

Now let's talk abit about the person behind the screen.

What's your favorite beverage of choice, alcoholic or non?

Pablo: I love Coke haha, I’m actually not into alcoholic beverages, I have tried some of them, but they just seem like a torture to your tongue. But yeah the favorite one would be coke, definitely not Pepsi💀

Salvarity: As an avid Pepsi enjoyer, I'll remember this betrayal

Well if drinking doesn't take up all your time and money, what does. Any other hobbies?

Pablo: Paradox take all my money💸

Salvarity: You gotta pick your favorite  Are you one of those losers on Europa Universalis. Or a much cooler Stellaris enjoyer

Pablo: I like playing most of the Paradox games, I think that makes up for a good chunk of my gaming time, I like other games like Stardew Valley, I guess my type of games are those of building things or conquering things. I definitely suck at shooting games💀 not sure if it’s my garbage compy or my terrible aim, probably both💀

Pablo: I’m a EU4 enjoyer🙏

I think my ranking would be: EU4>CK3>Vic3>Stellaris>HOI4

Salvarity: Any other hobbies aside from games?

Pablo: Well I actually don’t touch grass, so mostly watching Netflix and going out with friends on the weekends. I have been toying with the idea of joining the fitness world, but then I think of the effort and I forget about it

Salvarity: As someone who's spent a lot of money on unused gym memberships, I know that struggle

But, I think that's it for questions. Thank you so much for joining me today Pablo. Do you have any final remarks for our readers?

Pablo: Thank you so much Salvy! I think this is a pretty good addition, and I’m looking forward for more of this.

It’s always a pleasure to share a part of me, I have a bunch of stupid things I have done in this game, so if you all ever get bored feel free to ask about them. I’m also always open for feedback on how we are leading the alliance, particularly in milcom, so reach out if you have any proposal for us, that’s it.
