Just like the previous ones, this year has been difficult for the nation: during these past months, Vizcaino has found itself target of 5 different enemy countries who surely envy our prosperity. However, unlike past conflicts, so far our nation has come across victorious in 2 of them, and managed to settle a white peace resolution against the most recent declaration after the Vizcain Expeditionary Force successfully led a ground invasion of its territory.

Regarding overall war efforts, Minister of Defense, General Oliver Berry, credited our military performance to the brave courage showed by the Vizcain men and women willing to defend their homes against the aggressors, specially remarking the surrender of Beantopia after the consecutive launch of two nukes against their cities. After a month and a half however, the fear of our people who initially opposed the nuclear project came true during the ongoing war with the Rosewood Republic. This last week’s July 2, Vizcaino received its first nuclear strike against the port city of Polaroid, killing an estimated 85,000 people in the immediate explosion, with more aftermath casualties adding up during the following days. Several camps were established in the area around the city to provide assistance to those in need of medical attention and temporal housing while restoration efforts take place. Further reports reveal that among the infrastructure destroyed by the nuke, the Polaroid General Hospital was completely wiped out, and the Subway system sustained enough damage to make it virtually inoperable until closer inspections.

After the failure of the Vizcaino’s Vital Defense System, now incorporated into the Silver Dome, to prevent the strike from reaching the country’s populated areas, General Berry just limited to say: “It’s quite obvious that since the enemy can’t break our spirits with conventional warfare, they’re resorting to these vile acts.” “We have reasons to believe one of the sore losers we defeated previously placed a bounty over our heads through the black market, who knows what kind of shenanigans happen back there.” Although the minister refused to comment further when confronted that our nation launched the first nuclear attack. This has caused a growing sector of the population against the use of nuclear weapons, but they still count with full support in the Council. Prime Minister Sara Hudson ordered three days of mourning after the disaster, or as much as it can occur during a war anyway.

A change in the country’s diplomatic ties is also in its way, as Vizcaino leaves its previous alliances in search of new agreements to secure support against future incursions. While many Vizcain citizens were upset about breaking the traditional defense pacts they’ve upheld for a couple of years now, Foreign Affairs minister Florencia Lawrence defended the move as necessary to ensure the nation’s survival: “We’re working hard to improve our diplomatic standing in Orbis, like hiring actual ambassadors to interact with other countries instead of sending the closest government bureaucrat we find around office. We should be able to communicate in the proper channels now if we wish to.”
