Like the 1940's , when some of the greatest films of the noir  screen were released, the 1960's  was a decade that saw the premier of the most elegant films of all time. This Sunday on The Retro Mountain Radio, we focus and perhaps introduce some of the most excellent productions of the decade . through the celebration of the musical pieces from each film listed, we shall explore the romance of the most elegant time in film making.

MARNIE (1964)

The beauty of Marnie , is greater than most films that have ever been made. it is simple yet delicate in its mystery . The romance played by Sean Connery and Tippie Hendren is graceful. In 1964 Sean Connery was in his prime as an actor as he had just debuted from the first few Bond films. The Master of suspense himself, Alfred Hitchcok set the tone of passion with poise in his old fashioned displays of love, romance and desire. the music, the style and the lavish richness of the overall display of the film, is a perfect example of how marnie really did establish the sophisticated quality of 1964.

Splendor In The Grass (1961)

This romantic film is set in the old fashioned Kansas just before the wall street crash in 29. Natalie woods acting was poignant and captivating. most films during the 60's offered  deeper insight into themes, story line depth and characterization. All these things were clearly depicted in this poetic, fate driven love story. "the bitterness of youth burns away and leaves the  fading memories..." this film will always remain a treasure and memory for many. this is the kind of love story, where outer interventions take effect and immorality from others  have implications for the future generation.

INSIDE DAISY CLOVER (1965)

Natalie Wood, takes on the role of daisy clover... and embarks on a dark and disturbing tale through the circus of Hollywood. Along her way she meets and is swept away by a popular and famouse movie star played by Robert Redford,  She finds herself in the evil hands of Hollywoods Prince of Darkness, played by a charismatic Christopher Plummer, and ultimately discovers what it truly feels like to sign autographs. This is a  story that does not honey coat the horror of being owned by a Hollywood studio.   It is a excellent masterpiece, and a rare production, starring some of the most skilled actors of the decade.

MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1962)

No other film on the list of great films from the 1960's could really compare to this one in terms of production scale and vastness of story. This is a grand film, that is almost like a voyage upon the ocean. Marlon Brando portrays a morally disturbed rebel yet again... and his powerful characterization encompasses  the whole film... yet again. This is a highly recommended picture that that truly outshines most others . They don't make films as good as this one anymore. It is immersive and rich in its voyage through the ocean.

HAMLET AT ELSINORE (1964)

The Theater actors of the time put on marvelous Shakespearean shows! But in order to truly introduce this theatrical atmosphere it would be better to put on a play right here, rather than describe it. So to conclude our program... here it is.

For those who would like to add authentic piece of 60's fizz to there collection... here is some perfect music!
