Political and Economic Systems of the Socialist Republic of Gavastek

Political Systems

The head of government of Gavastek is the executive council, which is made up of 13 council members from 13 single-member districts. The council is lead by the head council member, who is elected nationally from the 13 members. The terms for the council are 3 years with 3 maximum total terms*. The head of state is known as the Följeslagare (also as President), which is elected nationally to a 6 year term that is non-repeatable.

*Changed to after 2083 constitutional amendment

The current requirements for a candidate of the executive council is to be between 20 and 65 years old, to be either a citizens for 5 years or a permanent resident for 8 years, and to not have any charges of felony or higher. The requirements for President is to relinquish any party affiliations, be a minimum 25 years old, and not having a felony charge or higher.

The legislative body, known as The National Assembly, consists of two chambers. The lower is the General Counsel, which is currently made of 623 National Counsellors. The upper house is the National Conference, which is made up of 99 Legislators. National Counsellors serve 3 year terms, with term limits of 5 terms. Legislators have terms of 3 years with maximum 4 terms.

Citizens may petition the government to address issues or propose potential bills that would benefit the people or the nation; votes are held within the National Assembly for bills.

Economic Systems

The economy of Gavastek is democratic socialism. This means that welfare, healthcare and other necessities are paid for by the government should a citizens so request or require it; tax rates are relatively high. Goods and products and controlled by those who manufacture it within semi-private businesses. This means that workers control the goods that they produce, and not single-person decisions.

Governmental restrictions are placed on large corporations(companies valued at over R$30 000 000) in order to prevent financial overreach, environmental damage, to help preserve local businesses (protecting local businesses and associated cultures from large corporate monopolisation and/or domination), and promote general livability for the working class by providing welfare/healthcare/education.

Primary, secondary, and higher education are free for all residents of Gavastek. Private education exists very sparsely across the nation, and mostly exists only on the rural island of Möljon, due to failure in the rest of the country as a result of high quality public education.

2089 Gavastekan Political Report

Data researched by N.I.R.P.E.D. found that Gavastekan citizens largely favour the socialist party, having granted it a supermajority in The General Counsel, and a near supermajority in The National Conference.

Partisan distributions are as seen below.

Percentages of liberal/conservative voters for various age groups are shown in the table below.

*Left-leaning, Moderate, and Right-leaning are defined based on where citizens self-identified according to census reports. Initially, the N.I.R.P.E.D. intended to place each on a sociopolitical/socioeconomic spectrum to place different stances, but this method proved inaccurate as some citizens were moderate with conservative leanings, for example. Instead, census questions asked residents to identify which category they best fit under: left-leaning, moderate, or right-leaning. Once again, this chart does not show specific parties but instead political stances and ideologies, as the DSRGP does not operate under a bipartisan system and therefore has numerous smaller (but still significant) parties in addition to major parties.
