The 2087 Lunar presidential election was held on Nov. 1, resulting in a win for Conservative Party candidate Sadie O'Keefe. The results were unexpected, as O'Keefe's popularity seemed to skyrocket compared to pre-election polls.

In a nation with a highly liberal majority, as shown by the Lunar Census Department in both recent and previous reports on political data, results such as these may bring up concerns regarding election interference, according to University of Ariadne political analyst Tessa Harland.

"Nothing is conclusive, and that's the problem," Harland said. "We essentially don't know what could have happened that would cause such a rise in (O'Keefe's) popularity, and that could be a cause for concern."

O'Keefe and incoming Vice President Jasper Larsen spoke to the people of Luna in a presidential address on Nov. 2.

"I understand the views on my party and the way they were impacted by the previous head of our party, who, as many know, committed unbelievable crimes against the people of this country," O'Keefe said in her address. "However, I am here to say: as we stand here at the head of this nation, we will lead Luna to victory, regardless of the flawed history we have."

Despite O'Keefe's promises of successful future endeavors, many are doubtful in the fifth Lunar President's abilities. Author and singer Charlie Arkwright has been one of many to criticize the Conservative Party's typical views, particularly through social media.

"Can't believe our new president stands in support of a party that wants to take away our rights," one popular post reads.

Conservative Party member Maxwell Barnes, a citizen of Cerulea, believes that a change in leadership was necessary and that the O'Keefe administration will be beneficial to the nation.

"Well, I know most people around here aren't in much agreement with President O'Keefe, but I think that after, what, ten full years of various liberal leaders, where have we gotten? This nation's been through a chaotic era, and I think this one's the one that's going to bring about peace."

In her address, O'Keefe stated that economic reform was the first order of business.

"As your President, I will work to sign into law bills that will help us with the struggle we've been facing with inflation of our currency," O'Keefe stated. "We are on the brink of economic downfall, it's true — especially with our decision to cut economic ties with certain nations. However, our new initiatives will work to return value to the Lunar Note and reduce our economic struggles."

The people of Luna await O'Keefe's promises and hopes for an administration that brings prosperity to the nation.

"In the end I'd say that the opposition stems more from a hatred of the Conservative Party than of (O'Keefe) herself," Arkwright said. "I, myself, find some of the things her party has stood for entirely deplorable. So I won't stand with a leader who aligns themselves with that party. However, I do also believe that there is hope for this nation, because I understand that she cares for the people and wants to do what will help us in some areas at least."
