In the Pocono Socialist Republic

With the Nation still young, one of the main goals of this nation is to abolish poverty as well as Hunger in the Nation. “Without the Profit motive, we can put the people first“ says President Woody Sinclair addressing the nation on their goals for the next 5 years. Local Worker Councils having been leading the charge with this, with setting up Worker Restaurants, especially in rural areas in the country.

Councils are pushing this, since it can offer a high quality, cheap meal, for everyone who wants it. Bringing the total of each meal down to .25 Poc (.89USD). They did this with a combination of working with Farmers Cooperative, cooks who need employeement, and funding from Local Workers Councils. With a high demand, and with people enjoying a good meal, there are a total of 27 so far in the nation of 300,000.

Micheal Carbone, an elderly resident before the nation was established said “Food was very hard to come by, especially during the winter months. Farm owners were very keen of keeping the prices high, which cause some some famines in the old republic. It was Very hard to support and feed ourselves. We tried with community gardens, but the police destroyed them. These restaurants are such a chang for the better”  Andy Handschuh, a new chief said ”I am able to bring my Family’s recipes to the masses with this, we are able to create our own menu and how we are going to run our place. Being a chief is something I always wanted to do, and I am glad I have this opportunity. Wish my father was here to see it, he died before the revolution even started and he taught me what I know”

So far, this has reduced hunger In the nation by 4%, but one of the main benefits is a place for the community to have a place to be, connect, and come together.
