Elowen Richards has won the Social Party's internal election and is now the Social Party's official candidate for the Presidential Election, beating the frontrunner Jago Thomas to the 50% mark.

However the election only hosted a 76% turnout, a suggestion that party members were not supportive of either candidates. The closeness of the result also suggests that Elowen Richards needs to pay particular attention to please her own party.

She spoke after the result:

"Can I first thank everyone who voted, and everyone who didnt vote for me. It was a great campaign and can I thank Jago for conducting it in a proper manner.

This past few weeks I have campaigned on a policy front of new spending plans, more infrastructure, more state intervention. I know this is something that has frightened many and you believe I will take this party far to the left. I have to tell you, my policy decisions are in light of the current economic state of the country, it is not something I believe is safe, and necessary to keep as this party's permanent policy.

If we look at this country, just come out of a full blown war. We can say that we are happy with the way its turned out. Look at Dyfed for an example of how spending has pushed forward growth. We are now seeing major infrastructure projects being made. This is something that must happen nationwide.

We will revise and update our manifesto in the next few days and will release it as campaigning begins. Let's show the country that we can win the argument, and make this country better".
