GBN-           The National Conference voted to impeach the Minister for Economics following a Svek Inquiry. This comes as the result of public anger towards the minister for failing to protect the country from the gold standard collapse a month prior and the continuing recession.

The Svek Inquiry was initiated by Elsa Hanson (Independent) of the 58th District. In her letter to the National Conference, Hanson accused the Minister for not fulfilling his oath of office. The following is an excerpt of the letter sent to the National Conference:

“The Minister of Economics, Eric Bergstrom, in allowing this catastrophe to happen to our country, violated the very oath that he swore on upon being elected to such an office. The oath stated that the office bearer would ‘Accept the honours and responsibilities that come with the office of the Minister of Economics, and use to the best of their ability the powers vested in the Economics Ministry to regulate the economy, ensure domestic prosperity, and adhere and protect the Articles of the Gavastekan Islands.’ The Minister did not practice in the best of his abilities in trying to prevent the economic recession that we see or strive to prevent a recession during his time in office. I write to this National Conference to announce the opening of a Svek Inquiry, for the gross mistrust of national office that we’ve seen.

Following the Svek Inquiry, the entire National Conference voted on an open impeachment vote for the minister. The Vote passed the conference with a margin of 71-28. The Minister will fact trial in the National Assembly building. The Supreme Court of Gavastek will serve as judge, and the jury shall be made of the National Assembly and the Grand Jury of National Justice.

The GJNJ has not been called to try a minister since the trial of the former Minister for the Armed Forces, Minister Viktor Kavnemov, who was found guilty of illegally ordering the 1996 Invasion of Sweden, disregarding the orders of the Följeslagare, and swiftly removed from the position and later faced criminal charges for such acts.

If found guilty of failing the oath of office, Minister Bergstrom will be removed from office and barred from all credentials, benefits, and responsibilities that come with it. The Impeachment trial is due to begin within the coming weeks, and will likely last for a month at minimum. During this time period, the Minister has had the right to resign removed until found guilty or acquitted.
