The Fireflies Reemergence : Battle of Pittsburgh

The Fireflies Rally Behind the Old QZ

The Fireflies began their reclamation of Pittsburgh with rallying local Militants. 53 Militants arrived to the outskirts of the QZ. Starting at precisely 6:10 Am, Fireflies snuck their way in through multiple entrances across the QZ, looking for an HQ or a council of some sort. The Fireflies had once been defeated at Pittsburgh in 2026, but would return once again just 7 years later in 2033.  They were not going to accept defeat as a result this time. Fireflies were properly armed, rather than their former underequipped counterparts. This time led by Sargent Risk. 

Early Battle

The Fireflies quietly, and quickly snuck all over the QZ. Many Hunters were killed before a proper alarm could be sounded. But of course, the Fireflies would be spotted. Hunters were thrown up out of  their beds, immediately being instructed to shoot any Firefly in sight. The Hunters were pinned outside of the city center, by Firefly gunfire. The Fireflies managed to sneak inside of the HQ and managed to massacre the Hunters. The Hunters were focused on distributing ammunition, and placing men on different corners of the QZ. However, Fireflies were coming in from the most crippling sides. The Fireflies had captured almost all the food stockpiles, workshops, and even a Hunter barracks, containing a stockpile of weaponry.  This crippled the Hunter's abilities, and as a result, a handful of hunters were left unarmed. Just like the Fireflies in 2026.

The Pittsburgh Massacre 

8 Fireflies entered the Hunter HQ, thanks to allied cover. The Fireflies quickly strategized and split into two groups. A group of 4 downstairs, and 4 upstairs. The Fireflies had entered a surprisingly quiet building, however there were Hunters lurking in the darkest corners. Both Downstairs, and upstairs, the Fireflies inside were closely knit together, making the Hunter's strategy nearly useless. They were forced to open fire on the closing in Fireflies, and ditch any planning they had. Fireflies made quick use of the still half asleep hunters, and used Molotov's against them rather than wasting ammunition. The HQ was filled with screams of pain. Survivors, Fireflies, and Hunters awaiting their demise had flashbacks of the Cordyceps' triumph in 2013. The HQ was cleared of Hunters, and their ashes wouldn't be kept to remember.

The End of the Hunters

Although thrown into disarray extremely quick, the Hunters' famous Humvee was called into battle. Then busy with other affairs, the Humvee was called to the front. The Humvee entered the battle with a bang, killing four Fireflies in the city center.  The Humvee was brought into the middle of the battle.  In the tall buildings, Fireflies shot at the gunner, who occasionally popped out to throw Molotov's. 3 More Fireflies would be killed by the Humvee. However, outside of the city center the Hunters' demise was near. They were spread thin, whilst the Fireflies were well equipped and were large in number.  So far 12 Fireflies had been killed compared to the Hunters' 28. The Humvee was eventually destroyed after a Firefly had hit the Gunner with a Molotov. After the biggest fighting force the Hunters had was taken out, their morale depleted and they retreated. However, they would quickly find themselves encircled as Fireflies closed in. Once the pocket had been closed, the Hunters had been finished off. Any Hunters that had been out scavenging the harsh, apocalyptic world had returned to a new, familiar and unfriendly regime. The remains of the Hunters were forced to the outside world, or surrendered and became Fireflies themselves. Majority of people who had survived the wrath of the Hunters across Pittsburgh, joined the Fireflies and their ranks. Pittsburgh would be built back up from the ashes, and under a new regime.
