AUGUSTUS DEMOCRATICUS

HAS WON THE ELECTION TO

COMMISSAR OF RIMSKAYA!

Final Election Results:

Augustus Democraticus: 1,401,067 and 4 countries

Salvator Dorokov: 448,148 and 0 countries

Ellanor Huntington: 245,984 and 1 country

In a surprise turnout, the only son of the incumbent Maximus Democraticus as won the election for Commissar of Rimskaya with more than half of the population's vote and 4 countries putting him in the shoes of his adopting father. Salvator and Ellanor, in true comradely fashion, have conceded the election without any apparent or discovered problems. They will continue to serve their current positions in the Legislature.

Augustus Democraticus will be sworn in as the new Commissar of Rimskaya officially on February 21st, 2084, the 236th anniversary of the publication of the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. From there, he has decidedly been let to reign by the people until the year 2100, after which an election will be held every 5 years.

What follows is the speech given by Augustus after the announcing of his victory, followed by some words from his father Maximus.

Well, I'll be. After all the hardship you have been through, you decided to put ME in power. If course I'm not concerned or upset- but I am surprised. My father has, since the day he brought me into his life, taught me the principles of Trotskyism, Marxism, and Bolshevik-Leninism alike, whilst warning me of any potential sway into tyranny. It is there I shall ensure you, Rimskayans, that this change of power does not under any circumstances warrant a chance at instability.

We are recovering, I am aware. Our state has just been defeated in another war, and your lives have gone from glorious and acclaimed for their prosperity, into impoverished slum-like conditions. This is unacceptable- the dream of Rimskaya is and always will be a functioning Egalitarian State, and these wars shall NOT impede such a goal.

The doubts of the world are out of more so fear than hate. Indeed, they FEAR our political methods. It is not only against everything they have ever been taught or believed, but it is a threat to their power, and as they tell their people, the wellbeing of mankind. I tell you the first part is completely true: no tyrant is safe so long as we are on the planet. The latter is nothing but slander, of both the state and ideology.

Through the rest of the 21st century, as we approach the 22nd, I will ensure the restoration of Rimskaya to what it used to be and protect it from the hands of dictatorship that seek to intrude.

Aequitas shall continue as it has been. I will not alter any of its current aspects or goals as of the moment, though we are working on a formal constitution for the faction. I hope that to be one of my administration's earliest successes.

Thank you, Rimskaya. I can guarantee either a bright future, or my near and immediate death trying to commit to such. Nothing more.

My fellow countrymen...

I have watched over the state now for more than 60 years. I never imagined the rise it could have, nor the destruction it could face. That is all on me, your ruler through it all. I haven't much to say, as you could imagine my great speaking words have all but expended themselves through the years. So instead, I shall quote a famous speech of one of the few presidents of our predecessor nation who actually sought the best for his people.

...

Three score and four years ago, your ancestor comrades brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are, whether known or not, engaged in a great global war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war: One not with blood or smoke, but with promises and hopes. We have come to dedicate a new leader on that field, as a new rising place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—these grounds, nor any other. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here for our state, and the Revolution across the world, Rimskayan and not, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world may little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under Itself, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people,

shall not perish from Orbis.

Farewell Rimskaya: Thank you for giving International Socialism the ultimate chance at life... and Victory.

In celebration of the occasion, those of Rimskaya and her dominion rise for the National Anthem of Rimskaya and the Anthem of the World!

Congratulations to Augustus Democraticus, and despite our current instability, the rightful government of Luna, one that will always stand by Rimskaya in the good times and the bad, believes in his power to maintain freedom and to be a wonderful leader to an equally wonderful nation.
