NBESP- Following many close races and 6 days of vote counting, we can say for certain the winners—and losers—of the 2083 council elections. With one of those close races being that of the current head councilman, Velmir Sandelvinsky, many anxiously awaited the following results.
An important vote, from within the 4th district, has been all the focus the past few days, as crowds awaited to see if Velmir Sandelvinsky would be re-elected or not following the constitutional amendment, which would have given him at least 3 more years than the maximum term limit from before the amendment. But now, we can say for certain what the official results have to say:
Velmir Sandelvinsky has lost Re-election.
Now this result was most certainly not outside of the realm of possibility, and even seemed a certainty for many. Sandelvinsky has been shrouded in controversy ever since the handling of the Yevenchko trial, which was shrouded in mysterious deaths of key witnesses, and the first conviction to include the death penalty since the second republic. But in the end, Sandelvinsky received 31,4% of the final vote as the independent party candidate, losing to Karl Sjöberg of the Progressive Party, who received 47,6% of total legal votes cast. Astrid Forsberg, the Socialist Party candidate, received 31% of the vote, narrowly losing second place by 0,4%.
The following winning candidates with their districts, parties, and percentages are as followed:
