After a brief yet intensive campaign season, the results for the Lyonian elections are in. Ballots have been totaled, seats won, and a coalition formed. Let’s examine the results of the nationwide vote;

End National Polls:

Allied Party - 5.3%

Labour Party - 16.3%

Conservative Party - 19.75%

Lyonian Protectionist Party - 6.2%

Capitalization Party - 4%

Liberal Business Party - 12.25%

Isolationist Party - 9.7%

Communist Party - 4.4%

The Glove Party - 14.8%

Centralist Party - 4.7%

Independents - 2.6%

And let’s look at how that translated into seats;

1st Lyonian Senate (summed)

Allied Party - 21 PR, 15 SMDP = 36 total.

Labour Party - 65 PR, 61 SMDP, 31 bonus= 157 total.

Conservative Party - 79 PR, 83 SMDP, 40 bonus = 202 total.

Lyonian Protectionist Party - 25 PR, 23 SMDP = 48 total.

Capitalization Party - 16 PR, 10 SMDP = 26 total.

Liberal Business Party - 49 PR, 53 SMDP, 25 bonus = 127 total.

Isolationist Party - 39 PR, 45 SMDP, 21 bonus = 105 total.

Communist Party - 18 PR, 20 SMDP = 38 total.

The Glove Party - 59 PR, 71 SMDP, 33 bonus = 163 total.

Centralist Party - 19 PR, 13 SMDP = 32 total.

Independents - 10 PR, 6 SMDP = 16 total. 6 caucus with the Conservatives, 8 with the Gloves, 1 with the Isolationists, and 1 with the Labourers.

1st Lyonian House of Representatives

Allied Party - 42 PR, 30 SMDP = 72 total.

Labour Party - 130 PR, 122 SMDP, 63 bonus = 315 total.

Conservative Party - 158 PR, 166 SMDP, 80 bonus = 404 total.

Lyonian Protectionist Party - 50 PR, 46 SMDP = 96 total.

Capitalization Party - 32 PR, 20 SMDP = 52 total.

Liberal Business Party - 98 PR, 106 SMDP, 51 bonus = 255 total.

Isolationist Party - 78 PR, 90 SMDP, 42 bonus = 210 total.

Communist Party - 35 PR, 39 SMDP = 74 total.

The Glove Party - 118 PR, 142 SMDP, 64 bonus = 324 total.

Centralist Party - 38 PR, 26 SMDP = 64 total.

Independents - 21 PR, 13 SMDP = 34 total. 18 caucus with the Conservatives, 10 with the Gloves, 3 with the Isolationists, and 3 with the Labourers.

It is certainly worth noting that the Glove Party has won more seats than the primary opponent of the Conservative Party, which is the Labour Party. What was thought to be a secondary party is proving itself to be a force to be reckoned with, and such a force has its own agenda.

A coalition between the Conservative/Glove/Isolationist Parties is in effect, and as this coalition has a legislative majority, it is the governing coalition. Frederick Reish has been voted in as Speaker of the House, Alexander Farthing has been voted in as Consul of the Senate, and James Mikane was voted the Congressional Minister. The Republican Coalition, as they’ve been named, has been incredibly lucky; if they had not had as many Independents caucus with them as they did, chances are they would’ve had to coalition with the Lyonian Protectionist Party, which would make the coalition more dysfunctional.

Already, bills have been introduced. H.R.1 is a bill submitted by a Conservative Party member over restructuring the tax system. H.R.2 is a bill submitted by a Glove Party member to begin watching our revenue and limiting current revenue outflow into foreign investment. H.R.3 was submitted by an Isolationist Party member who wants the revenue outflow to be minimized, and surplus revenue to go to making Lyonia more self-sufficient. H.R.4 was submitted by LPP Leader John Dean, and is a proposal for Lyonia to instead increase revenue outflow into foreign investments. The bill goes on to specify that Lyonia should create additional national businesses to combat and break up the monopolies held by the Swing. An increase in pressure for SOSE to be completed is included. H.R.5 was submitted by an Allied Party member, proposing discussions over lowering RG taxes to 10/10. H.R.6, the last bill to be proposed, was proposed by a member of the Liberal Business Party, and recommends restructuring Lyonia’s current foreign investment from non-profitable investments (mutters about “that cursed stock” were heard throughout the legislature) into more profitable areas.

So far, only H.R.1 and H.R.2 have been voted on by the House of Representatives. H.R.1 was passed 1,108 to 792 (by 316 votes), and H.R.2 was passed 1,554 to 346 (by 1,208 votes). H.R.1 also made it to the Senate, passing 556 to 394 (by 162 votes). H.R.1 will be presented to Lord Lysander by James Mikane as soon as possible, to hopefully begin the restructuring of taxes in the nation of Lyonia to be fairer. (Some of the proposed measures include: establishing a flat tax, raising taxes slightly on higher brackets, and lowering them slightly on lower brackets).

John Dean has assured the public he will not rest until his anti-monopoly measures are passed. “Monopolies stifle businesses. The Taith crash was just one step towards lifting this suffocation; getting rid of the monopolies and restrictions of the Swing is the second.” Many members of the population remember the recent SWGB Fiasco, and Dean has a not-insignificant following.

James Mikane, however, disagrees. “This is preposterous! Yes, SWGB cost us greatly in both international standings and monetarily, and yes, we can sit here and dispute all day whether or not it was intentional, but the fact of the matter is that we don’t need to go charging into new businesses and tying up more and more revenue trying to combat an established business.”

Alexander Farthing, who typically remains quiet during such debates, gave his comment to the press after the Congressional session of the day ended. “I agree with both Mikane and Dean,” he says. “Tying up revenue waging a war we’re not necessarily prepared for is not the best of ideas. However, SWGB was most certainly not just a ‘miscommunication’; I feel that reassessing our foreign investments and looking at where we can invest for both profit and to prevent certain monopolies simultaneously is a good thing to be doing.”

James Mikane calls his policy plans the “Gold Economy Initiative” and says the Conservatives will be introducing legislation accordingly. Future legislation, policy initiatives, votes on legislation, and foreign commendations or condemnations will all be announced in the future!
