Cassowary numbers increase in World Heritage Area

The Oceanic Domain of ANZAC's Minister for the Environment reported that the management plan for the endangered Cassowary had seen an increase in the birds population.

Increased awareness of the Wet Tropics Rainforest and its flora and fauna has seen several successful conservation measures introduced since the granting of Orbis World Heritage Listing to the Wet Tropics Rainforest.

The importance of managing the World Heritage Listed area is a matter our nation takes seriously. Several universities had initiatied studies to broaden the scientific understanding of the area for the benefit of mankind, such as the search for medical cures amongst rainforest plants. Others focus on understanding the evolution of species through time in this remmnant Gondwanaland rainforest ecosystem.

Eco toursim was also rising with tourists reporting that the environment was the main attraction for their visit
