A TLP exclusive!
As we prepare for the 2081 presidential elections, reporters from The Lunar Post spoke with each of Luna's presidential candidates to determine their stances on controversial issues and more!
Socialist Party | Running alongside VP candidate Kiran Beverly
Born and raised in Calypso, Lucian Frost fought in the War of Liberation on the side of the old government, but soon switched over to the side of the resistance after personally meeting Ari Valoris, who was, at that point, a member of the revolution. Despite his past, he became one of the most trusted friends and allies of the Calypso segment of the revolution, and worked to infiltrate the other side of the war. After the war ended, he was elected to the Parliament, where he helped make integral decisions that have impacted Luna's history, and was actually the member of the Parliament who suggested forming diplomatic connections with Novaya Rimskaya Imperiya, now one of the nation's closest allies.
Some of the topics and issues he strongly supports are socialism, environmental protection and open immigration. However, he is strongly opposed towards becoming a nuclear-capable state and territorial expansion.
He spent four years as a member of the Parliament and, if he wins the election, hopes to fully establish a communist economy in Luna. Approximately 25% of Luna's population is planning to vote for Frost according to preliminary polling.
Democratic Party | Running alongside VP candidate Aurelia K. Aquilla
Currently serving her last term as the mayor of Helios, Cressida Arpina was forced to shelter from the War of Liberation in the depths of the Stygian Wildwood -- the only part of Luna untouched by the war -- when she was fourteen years old. When the war ended, she and her younger brother, Leo Arpina, finally resurfaced and left the woods, and she quickly gained influence and popular support in Helios and beyond.
Arpina supports LGBTQ+ rights, environmental protection and immigration rights. In terms of the economy, she supports free markets, but with strict restrictions to prevent large corporations from monopolizing industries and to protect the environment. She wants Luna to become a nuclear-capable state, but does not prioritize it and hopes to very rarely have to use nuclear weapons; she says that having a nuclear arsenal will help the nation grow more prosperous due to potentially being able to ward off hostile raiders. She is strongly opposed to the right to bear arms and the establishment of a national religion.
Approximately 51% of the nation is planning to vote for Arpina according to preliminary polling.
Conservative Party | Running alongside VP candidate Teresa Solan
Despite the Conservative Party's historical unpopularity in presidential elections, Freya Archer has managed to pull together a decent-sized group of supporters, around 22% of Luna's population. While her past is primarily unknown, she is well-known across Luna for her controversial opinions.
She supports massively loosening Luna's strict gun control laws and environmental regulations (such as getting rid of the longtime ban on all single-use plastics). She also supports eliminating the socialist aspects of Luna's current economy and instead switching to full capitalism and free markets. Archer refused to state her opinions on nuclear warfare, though she does somewhat support the development of biological and chemical weapons. She is opposed to the ideas of gun control, socialism and environmental reform.
Approximately 22% of the population supports Freya Archer and plans to vote for her, according to preliminary polling, which is a surprise to many due to the historic failures of the Conservative Party to gain support.
Luna's presidential elections will be held on January 19, 2081.
All polling data is accounting for the approximately 2% of people who chose that they would not be voting in the election.
