Prebalkan Era: (-∞ BC to 2025 AD)

American History

When the old United States of America was successfully couped via an attack on the capitol carried out by Trump supporters on 6 January 2021 AD, what followed was an eventual collapse of the federal government, finalized in 2022. The state governments still remained, but even some of those would eventually be dissolved too by 2024. A small detail that deserves brief mention is that in February of 2021, right after the coup of the prebalkan american federal government, the state of Texas suffered a great freeze unlike any that came before. Cabello, only a teenager at the time discovered that he did not only enjoy the cold, but much preferred it. A society could thrive in it if only it's government was not corrupted by runaway capitalism.

Without the power of the United States to balance the world, the rest of the world fell into chaos. By 2025, a global nuclear war happened and removed the little organization humanity still had at this point. The entire world broke apart into small warlord states competing for power. Even today, the world is split into thousands of governments. We call this the Great Balkanization.

Postbalkan Era: (2025 AD to ∞ AD)

Prepuntan History: (2025 AD to 2062 AD)
Texan History

In 2027, after 2 years of radioactive anarchy, the city state of Robstown was able to declare it’s sovereignty, creating a sustainable source of food and water. Robstown claimed the former american town of Robstown, TX, and the outskirts to the southwest, with the border being defined as the former american towns of Banquete and the ruins of Kingsville. The “nation” was even working on expansion to the east in the ruins of Corpus Christi. 

However, there were far more powerful states developing to the north. From the ruins of Austin and San Antonio, survivors organized to declare the Empire of Texas, appointing former senator of Texas, Ted Cruz - as the leader. The nation had followed the paths of old highways, first conquering the “Texas triangle” connecting the ruins of Austin, Houston and Dallas plus everything in between. The next plan of the Empire of Texas was to move south, which would introduce it to Robstown.

Of course, the Robstonians preferred their autonomy and so did resist Texan forces. First was the battle of Mathis, where Robstown was aiding the microstate of Matosia situated along lake Corpus Christi. That battle was lost. Second was the battle of Calallen, at the junction of highways connecting it to Robstown and Corpus Christi. Because most of the forces were concentrated to the east towards Corpus Christi, the Texan effort to advance south into Robstown was initially a failure, which meant the Robstonians considered it a success. However, once Texas found control of Corpus Christi, soldiers could move west from Corpus into Robstown. At this point, Robstown opted to surrender, and was annexed in 2028.

The city spent about 3 decades under Texan occupation. The city had to pay tribute and life generally was not good. In 2057, the daughter of Emperor Ted Cruz, named Caroline Camille Cruz, or “Triple C”, attempted to coup her father, having great disdain for his politics. This coup failed, but the Texan government was weakened and preoccupied. So, the Robstonians stood up in revolution against their Texan oppressors.

One of those freedom fighters was Tommy Cabello, already 54. On 13 April 2057, the borders of old Robstown were liberated from Texan control, and the workers of the cotton plantations overthrew the lords which had essentially enslaved them. After liberation, they declared “The Commune of Robstown”.

However, a huge problem to the new Commune of Robstown is that a decent amount of food was imported from the northern plains. At this point, Robstonians began to go hungry. The Commune of Robstown repurposed it’s cotton fields and encouraged the creation of personal gardens, although people were still hungry. With this leverage, Robstown was annexed after not even 2 years of independence. This was much to Cabello’s disappointment.

On 22 December 2059, Robstonian Tommy Cabello had enough of the entire north american continent and looked for a calm, peaceful place to settle down. He and a few friends considered places worldwide, and among them, Antarctica was interesting because the continent had very little human settlement and was even relatively unpolluted.

The Great Trek

The initial group consisted of only 200 people, who called themselves “The Pioneers''. They would live a nomadic lifestyle moving south until they could eventually reach antarctica. Their first step was the trek from Robstown to the ruins of the former american town of Brownsville. From there, the pioneers would cross the rio grande river and continue south. A few people died along the way, but as the pioneers moved through populated areas, they were able to convince some locals to join their efforts to create a settlement on antarctica.

This cycle repeated until reaching the Darien gap, an unpopulated stretch of rainforest between central and south america. The pioneers took significant casualties in the rainforest specifically as tropical diseases affected the group. After breaking through the Darien gap, the pioneers were able to resume as they were, recruiting even more of the locals. They were even able to recruit members of the ancient Mapuche and Inca tribes of south america.

Then came Patgonia, from there, the pioneers would need to gather a supply of food before crossing the drake passage from Patagonia to antarctica. They settled down in Patagonia for a few years before making the journey. After gathering a large enough stockpile of food, the pioneers made a final trek down south before reaching Antarctica proper.

Puntan History: (2062 AD to ∞ AD)

The Landing and founding of Cxeftero

On 2 August 2062, the pioneers landed on Antarctica’s far northern mainland. There were cheers audible for kilometers, although not heard by anyone but the penguins present. Because they were on the mainland of antarctica, Cabello named the first settlement “Cxeftero”, which is Esperanto’s word for “Mainland”.

The main problem at this point was making the settlement sustainable. The world’s oceans had recovered enough to continue birthing fish, but not as effectively. Cxeftero was able to create greenhouses, but they could only produce so much, so La Punta mostly imported it’s food. To import any significant supplies, it needed to build communications. A group of Mexicans happened to be proficient working with telecommunications devices, and so the first communications center of La Punta was constructed with the on-hand materials.

After communications with the rest of the world were set up, they worked to broadcast a message globally inviting even more people to Antarctica. However, there was only so many languages spoken in the broadcast. So Cabello had an idea. He would have part of the broadcast be in Esperanto to attract any of the world’s remaining Esperanto speakers to La Punta. This gamble worked, and many more intelligent people found themselves making the journey to La Punta.

That would end up being successful, and Esperantists globally brought their expertise and resources. Slowly, La Punta began to grow, with some modular structures being replaced with proper concrete buildings.
 

Declaration of La Punta

On 20 April 2069, La Punta declared itself a sovereign nation. Although it didn’t go by that name. Initially, it started off as San Martin, shortened from the prebalkan name of this region of the continent,  “La Tierra de San Martín''. However, the name was not even common knowledge, so the more recent arrivals preferred to refer to San Martin as “La Punta”, or literally “The Tip”. This quickly became the most common name for the country and so, the name of San Martin was changed to La Punta. The full name of the country to this day remains “The Tip of Antarctica”.

La Punta for awhile had to address the matter of language, as some settlers weren’t actually able to understand each other. Being that Esperanto was very easy to learn, and the native language of no one, Cabello thought it most fair to make Esperanto the official language of governance. From here, La Punta continued a rapid growth until becoming what it is today, a multicultural gateway into Antarctica.

Even today, La Punta's Texan heritage is visible, as Puntan cities of Robstauxno and Korpuso take their names directly from the Texan cities by the same name.
 

The Demodularization

When Cxeftero was first founded, the city was made primarily of modular buildings. Cabello attracted investors from worldwide to assist the young nation in building proper buildings. In fact, the city’s first major project was the construction of a subway system. Proper buildings existed, but modular buildings still existed en masse. To further state La Punta’s sovereignty, Cabello wished to show that the settlement of La Punta was to be permanent.
 

The First Buttecoin War

Before the First Buttecoin War, La Punta did not maintain a military, or even have a significant supply of weapons. The people thought the isolation justified not needing to spend money on maintaining a military. However, the pirate nation of buttecoinenthusiasts made the decision to raid La Punta anyway. A surprise attack was performed on Cxeftero on 14 December 2069, causing the destruction of the entire defensive force at the time. This prompted the creation of the Puntan Military, starting with the Army and Navy branches.

The Puntan-Buttesibero War/The 2 Nation Raid

On 14 February 2070, exactly 2 months after the First Buttecoin War, La Punta found itself at war with the pirate nation of Siberia. Their reason for declaration of war was “balls 40”. With it’s emergency reserves of steel, La Punta created 3 new ships. The LPS Victoria, LPS Phillip, and the LPS Allende. The nation of buttecoinenthusiasts also declared war on La Punta, joining the Siberians to loot La Punta. The nation was able to fare better, but it still suffered from naval blockade.

Post-War, Cabello only had disdain for Siberia. As a result, he decided to pass a law in direct conflict with Siberia. Siberia had recently banned furries from it’s nation, and purely out of spite, Cabello invited furry refugees to La Punta for their safety. Thousands of furries had come to La Punta from not just Siberia, but all over the world.

The Spork Skirmish

With a far larger military, La Punta wished to assert it’s power within it’s region. A nation called “True Patriots” also on Antarctica was being raided by a nation called “Spork”. Spork in addition to being raided was under a naval blockade. Cabello learned about the conflict and felt saddened, as La Punta had only recently experienced naval blockade. However, Spork maintained an extremely small navy.

This gave Cabello the idea to intervene. After speaking with his supervisors, he declared war on Spork, destroying their entire navy. Quickly, he looked for peace, as the attack was intended to liberate True Patriots. And so La Punta and Spork signed the Treaty of The City of Light, stating:

“Under this treaty, Spork is obligated to refrain from raiding any nation on the continent of Antarctica.” 

The nation of Spork agreed to these terms and True Patriots was freed from occupation. Premier Helena Diniz of the country of Igua-Sul commented on the results of the short skirmish “This is awesome! It shows a clear capacity of La Punta de Antarctica from defending itself and even other nations in Antarctica, Congrats!”

The Foiled Furry Coup

The first significant event marking the start of the build up of the Puntan Civil War is the foiled furry coup of 8 August 2070. A group of furries was arrested in the city of Maliglesia for conspiracy to overthrow the government. Their plans would have the new furry run government become allies of the Maximilian nations. The reason they wished to overthrow the government was that they believed they were being persecuted, because they heard rumors that La Punta was maintaining furry conversion camps. Notably, in the city of Siñeve. One claimed to have escaped a camp before having their mouth covered by police officers. Evidence supporting this at the time was only that the furry population of La Punta was decreasing despite the lack of outward migration.

The Great Christianization

Before the buttecoin wars, only 0.5% of La Punta’s population were practicing christians. Post-war, that number reached a startling 30% of the population following christianity as a coping mechanism. The particular denomination of christianity was discovered later on to be a form of American Evangelicalism, a toxic sect of standard christianity. The Puntan sect would become known as "Antarctic Evangelicalism", and similar to American Evangelicalism, it would often brainwash it's followers, deceiving them via "faith healing". Actors would be falsely healed by preachers alike, and the preachers would state that good fortune would come to the people if they were loyal to god. When they were delivered no fortune for their good behavior, southern preachers would tell them that their good behavior was not enough, and they had to do more. This would result in a psychological feedback loop where the evangelical followers would feel bad for their failure to satisfy their god. The church would more strictly define "good behavior" and the followers would obey.

Many of these christians began to deny science. On 10 August 2070, Cabello had La Punta join the Bawia climate mitigation pact. This angered the christians, who on 13 August 2070, protested in the city of Juxnigorod, claiming not only that climate change is fake, but that even if it were real, they would prefer it in order to warm up Antarctica's climate. Some protestors brought flags with Union Jacks to represent the anglican part of La Punta's heritage. Some radicals were even calling for a theocratic government. The protests escalated after audio was leaked about Cabello’s annoyance by christians. They began to loot buildings and damage infrastructure. By the 15th August 2070, A tank was brought in for crowd control, as the police department was not equipped to handle violent civilians. It patrolled the city’s Taiping Street. However, when the tank was swarmed, it fired in self defense and killed several people in what became known as the Taiping Street Massacre. Out of 1,000,000 of the population at the time, 300,000 had become christians and were angry at the government for it's response. The christian population rose up to support the movement and thus the Puntan Civil War began.

The Puntan Civil War

These christians named themselves the National Theocratic Front or the NTF. The Puntan Christians of the time appealed mainly to people in less densely populated areas which often grew the nation's food supply and so the christians quickly took control of national food production. To worsen the situation of the technocratic government, a global war had been happening during this time. Importing food would be incredibly expensive, and it was not an expense that could be afforded by technocratic La Punta. What the citizens of Cxeftero did not get to learn the easy way was that no help was coming.

After contacting with the army commander, they stated they were in the Earth Kingdom fighting a war as a counter to a raid they had done on an ally. Cabello did not ever declare war on the Earth Kingdom, so he flew to Ba Sing Se in hopes of meeting with the leader Kuei to apologize for a rogue military. However, a secretary who served the Earth Kingdom had told Cabello:

“There is no war ongoing between La Punta and the Earth Kingdom, and there is no war happening in Ba Sing Se.”

With that truth being very visible, Cabello then attempts to recontact his army commander. Upon learning that Cabello realized the delivered reasoning was a lie, the army commander cut off contact with La Punta. Cabello had been forced to send spies into his own military to learn where the army and navy was. He soon discovers that the army commander and navy admiral have christian sympathies and while are not having their forces directly fighting Cabello's government, they have been diverted from the continent to prevent countering the efforts of the NTF. Specifically, the admiral had threatened to navally blockade La Punta's technocratic government and even declare war on the state's allies if they intervene to support the government forces. Fortunately, he did not do this, instead opting to simply linger outside the country and raid smaller nations, notably islamic ones. Shamefully, this is the first time La Punta fought offensive wars.

Cabello was aware of the disloyalty of La Punta's politicians, and tried to counter it but faced difficulty due to the threat of being forced out of power by the christian politicians. Being that he did not want to make the mistakes of the prebalkan Soviet Union, instead of doing political purges, Cabello kept his officials in power while making concessions to them. Part of this included the imprisonment and forced conversion of furries.

In a facility outside Siñeve, the NTF soldiers discovered the furry conversion camps, and while not only unphased, but even supportive of it, the NTF pretended to be angry at the treatment of furries as to encourage the furries across La Punta, but especially in the still unoccupied south to rise up against the government. This strategy would ultimately prove to them, and after a week of fighting, The south of La Punta, with the cities of Maliglesia and Kelindukom fell.

The furries formed the "Commune of Furry Freedom Fighters", or the C3F. The C3F were particularly helpful in the assaults against the technoctratic government through the mountains, likely because their fursuits kept them warm during the long periods they would be away from external warmth. By 30 November 2070, La Punta's defensive line in Siñeve fell and so the NTF were able to continue making advancements together with the C3F.

But regardless, on 10 December 2070, Cxeftero had fallen and the technocratic government had lost all of continental La Punta. Basically, all cities except Corpus Frigus, nowadays named Korpuso - were under theocratic control. The NTF in addition to fighting the technocratic government, had the goal of causing injury or death to any atheists they found. This poor treatment of non-christians started here, but it would see it's true peak during the reign of the theocratic regime's holy purges.

For now, the land would be partitioned between the C3F and the NTF. The NTF would receive the northwestern portion of the continent, stretching from Juxnigorod to Cxeftero. The C3F only kept it's previously held regions of Maliglesia and Kelindukom. Siñeve particularly was split into 2 zones. The north, occupied by the theocrats, and the south was given to the furries as compensation for their assistance against the technocratic government.

The Theocratic Regime

On 22 December 2070, the theocratic regime declared new policies.

Christianity was declared the state religion, and the practice of any other religion, including atheism - became punishable by death. The tax policies were changed from progressive to flat. Cannabis consumption and possession was made illegal. Military service was made mandatory. All post-secondary schools were abolished, and all school curriculum was changed to fit christian doctrine. La Punta's national healthcare system was abolished, with an attempt being made to give the work to the private sector.

 Welfare services for those in poverty have not only been disbanded, but charities have been made illegal. Marriage was now limited between a man and woman. Worker unions are now illegal. The circumcision of children became MANDATORY. Abortion became illegal. All weapons have been legalized for personal ownership. There was no longer a guarantee to free speech. Torture was legalized. Essentially, La Punta became a fascist police state.

Not only a fascist police state, but an illogical one. In fact, Mr.Ivanov has requested for La Punta to leave the Bawia Pact, and while that request was denied due to Muffiny not seeing the theocratic government as legitimate, Ivanov claimed the pact has no leverage on the nation and can be ignored anyway without consequence. So nuclear power plants were actually shut down, with oil and coal power plants being built in their place. Pollution was a non-issue, with Ivanov insisting god wanted the planet to be warmed to help contribute to a great flood to purge sinners.

Life in the Furry Occupied Zone of La Punta and the Southern Invasion

Meanwhile in the Furry Occupied Zone, or the FOZ, things were a little different. Because the C3F only fought for their own freedom and not the majority, they needed to cater to the majority to prevent a civil takeover. So the furry governors of the FOZ decided to instate a democratic system. This was La Punta's first exposure to democracy, and most of the civilians actually quite liked it. They were happy, and allowed the furries to remain in power. Of course, the FOZ was affected by the neighboring theocratic regime's pollution, but other than a drop in respiratory health, life was good, and Puntans were free to do whatever they wanted, as long as it wasn't criminal in nature. Thousands from the north tried to seek refuge in the FOZ. However, Ivanov broke his peace agreement with the FOZ and invaded it.

The Holy Purges, (Preskauxdu / Semidual) genocides of furries + gays

Out of pure shock, southern Sinjeve fell too quick to effectively respond. He was brutal, especially in Maliglesia - which defended itself fiercely. After Maliglesia fell, there was not much issue with the invasion of Kelindukom. Some furries continued a guerrilla war in the mountains, their fursuits keeping them warm during the summer months. But even then, the furries did not have the resources to continued on and the pause of resistance was assumed to signify either a surrender or the starvation of the fighting furries.

With the whole of the continent under theocratic control, Ivanov began to carry out a great purge, which would eventually be recognized as a !@#$. Furries everywhere were killed. After furries were killed, atheists or at least the irreligious were killed. Then more general leftists were killed. It was even found that a small number of muslims and hindus were killed. Ivanov carried out the !@#$ by brainwashing his followers into being convinced that god wanted them to kill his enemies. It is theorized even that Ivanov wanted to extend the !@#$ into a genetic one. He proposed africans be exterminated, as he believed they were cursed by god due to sin. He didn't even wish to spare slavic peoples, which is ironic because Ivanov had Russian heritage himself.

The Liberation of La Punta

The global war happening at the time in addition to the destruction of digital infrastructure isolated La Punta from the world for months. So the world was not aware of what was happening until an internet link was repaired and journalist Natalie Wright sent out a plea detailing the humans rights violations happening in La Punta, notably the !@#$ of gays.

Our allies of the Sixth French Republic and Disney World were angered by this, so on 21 February 2071, the allies made a landing near Cxeftero and reconquered the city, then beginning to move further south towards Robstauxn and Siñeve,  while Ivanov locked himself in the Vintradomo. 

Before La Punta was liberated, Ivanov wanted to change the flag of the theocratic regime to a lighter blue flag with a cross to show La Punta's rule by christianity. He even wanted to officially rename the country to either "The Holy Empire of La Punta","San Martin", or "New Asturias". The below image is a group of protestors in Robstauxn celebrating their liberation by burning the flag of the theocratic regime.

As La Punta was not wanting to destroy the Vintradomo, La Punta offered Ivanov refuge to another country. Which he accepted, legally becoming a free citizen of Siberia. Historian Dr.Bosquez suggested that Ivanov be given the title “Ivan the terrible”. Cabello even suggested paying reparations to island nations for future damages via sea level rise caused by Ivanov's intentional switch to dirty energy sources.

But those who were brainwashed too far fought to the death to see their fascist version of christianity remain. By the end of the conflict, 1/3 of La Punta's population had been killed since the previous year, causing a demographic shift that La Punta would be forever impacted by.

The Tojotomi Decree and Limberwisk Crisis

Post-War, opinion toward christianity was hostile at best. Many in La Punta even wanted to ban christianity as a consequence of the brutality brought on them by christians. A poll was sent out nationwide post-war to gauge the opinion of the idea. 47% said they would prefer to see Christianity banned. 19% said they would like to see it remain legal, but do not support Christian extremism. 13% claimed to be neutral. the last 21% disliked the idea.

So on 6 April 2071 at 7:07, Cabello wrote and signed the “Tojotomi Decree" banning the practice of Christianity effective immediately for the sake of defending La Punta's national security. Of course, there was a severe global outcry, with the loudest critics of the decree being Limberwisk and Deportia. Both nations offered to help christians in La Punta seek refuge. La Punta's Zamenhof International Airport became severely crowded, and as a result of the sheer lack of space, many christians were forced to linger the streets.

However, this caused for the citizens of Cxeftero to continue living in fear, as the christians on the streets took to crime while on the streets. Particularly they are committing sexual violence and murders against any LGBT individuals or scientists they identify. Not being able to detect hypocrisy, they even trafficked drugs to make money. Cabello had even labeled the situation “a post-peace guerrilla war”. 

Regardless, they were getting to Deportia and Limberwisk, regardless of the process being slow. While unloading the passengers, Hush Air Force officials counted 46 Puntans that had bruises or difficulty doing simple tasks. They were taken to the airport's ER clinic where they were examined. The examination results came with that the 46 Puntans had experienced physical trauma, specifically from a baton or rubber bullet. The Holy Hush Air Force officials suspected that these injuries were caused by beatings from Puntan police officers. The Royal Congress demanded a public adress from the Puntan government.

Nationalism began to rise in Limberwisk, but it would be nothing compared to the escalation that would come later. An investigation was carried out in La Punta, and it was discovered that the local authorities were attempting to segregate christians infected with a new disease, one that had appeared in Siñeve due to the rapid increase in pollution and decrease in cleanliness. Some injury was also sustained by harassment from atheists, which was considered revenge for the pain christians delivered to them.

On 24 June 2071, Despite the extra windy and cold weather, A rally was held in Cxeftero where atheists and antitheists alike marched down Blua Street, mocking christianity. Being that Cabello hopes to maintain diplomacy with Limberwisk and avoid war, Cabello is taking a stance against this rally, stating to them the following:

"While the threat of religion has been neutralized domestically, addressing the opium of religion is simply impossible to do globally, because not everyone possesses the same amount of intellect as the population of our nation. It is only that intellect which has allowed our people to reject religion. Simply, we must recognize that there are not people above us; that they will not - they will never - understand us!" 

This caused the crowd to enter applause and neutralized their desire for war. While Cabello no longer saw demands of war from the people, he worried that it could cause geopolitical shockwaves if Limberwisk were to interpret it as an insult. He was correct to worry, as the Hush people saw Cabello as basically saying that the religious are of less intellect of those who aren't, and that religion was a threat.
So at Davidland on 8 July 2071, a patriotic rally occurred where citizens mocked the intellect of the Puntans, and following this rally was a military march to boost nationalism. The extremely small Hush atheist population of 3,200 also began to leave, most of which fled to Nuukslat rather than La Punta, believing a land invasion of La Punta was likely. 

The De-Escalation and Liberalization, birth of the Bi-Polar Coalition

On 10 July 2071, a religious minority in La Punta, the Bahaaj (Bahai'i in English) gathered in Cxeftero for a counterprotest, denouncing the atheist population for insulting the Christians of Limberwisk but also denouncing Christians in all places abroad for advocating war between La Punta and Limberwisk. The Bahaaj advocated for a peaceful solution, expressing interest in seeing a third party mitigate the conflict to prevent a diplomatic breakdown.

On 18 July 2071, In a gathering in Robstauxn by the Bahaaj, Bahaaj Represenative Bengxamen Romano delivered a speech.

"We have desires from both sides in this religious stand off. “Dual democratization.” Essentially, we wish to ask both governments to respect the opinions of others through democracy. But also limits on control over people, such as abolishing the mandating of a religion, or lack there of. The Hush people will change their government from a Theocracy to a Theocratic Democracy. In return, La Punta will become a Technocratic Democracy. Both Limberwisk and La Punta will hold elections. Both leaders will still be allowed positions exempt from elections. In the case of La Punta, a council of technocrats will exist alongside an elected parliament. A similar situation for Limberwisk where the Czar may be a figurehead, especially for diplomatic reasons. With emergency powers in the event of war. Being the most important parts of the statement, this agreement will mean Cabello must withdraw the Tojotomi Decree, legalizing christianity just as and Limberwisk would legalize atheism. It is the Bahaaj belief that if religion is to decline or spread in either country, God will address it through his divine physicians."

Shortly after their applause, the Bahaaj crowd took 5 minutes of silent prayer, in respect of Limberwisk's hush people. They requested that a third party host the negotiations if such an agreement was made.

After the Bahaaj made their compromise, Limberwisk and La Punta officials accepted. With La Punta doing most of the conforming. Under these terms, Cabello would withdraw the Tojotomi decree, relegalizing Christianity. La Punta would also begin to undergo a transformation of it's government. The way the old government worked was by a council of technocratic directors. A parliament was also to be elected for La Punta. To ease the scientists among us, the technocratic council was not abolished. Instead, it was to exist alongside the parliament with reduced powers, becoming more of an advisory body, with the exception of the position of Social Director. the Social Director will take the position of Deputy Prime Minister in most parliamentary democracies. As a result, La Punta's true government will be a new kind, a "Technocratic-Democracy". A new parliamentary building was built, and the first elections were held on 26 December 2071 with the new government taking office on 2 January 2072 and new elections happening quadrennially.

By February 14, 2072, Puntan officials had approved the Charter of the Poles, officially forming the BPC, a semi-militaristic, co-op, and economic organization. 

The Blizzard Offensive

On October 11, 2071, 1.7 thousand people disappeared from their homes in Cxeftero, of those missing, 70% were female, and 30% were male. Along with that, a Puntan military official had also gone missing. The very same day, a large category 4 blizzard slammed into Limberwisk from the west, freezing and taking out several communications and electric lines throughout the country, 40% of Limberwisk's national grid, to be exact. 

9 days later, in the early hours of October 20th, 2071, five Puntan naval vessels anchor about 10 miles north of Ineq, and deploy 33 landing craft with an estimated total fighting force of 1,166 marines. Once the marines landed on the shore, DAF combat helicopters and Ineq Special Police were able to stealthily repeal the attack in just 2 hours, despite being outnumbered 2-1. By the end of the bloodshed, 800 Puntan marines lay dead on the grassy beaches of Ineq, and 400 retreated, and remained to fight another day. Shortly after, Czar Lins had sent a fiery message to Social Technocrat Tommy Cabello about the uncalled attack. 

Cabello was completely unaware of the attack, stating that he, along with all Puntan military officers and gov officials, had no idea of the attack, and that they suspect it may be the thousands that had disappeared weeks earlier. On October 24, 2071, Czar Lins sent Cabello a personal invite to hold a meeting in Igua-Sul regarding the attack, he had accepted, and two days later, during the meeting, it was discovered that the 1.7 thousand that had disappeared on the 11th were the same ones who had initiated that un-permitted attack on Limberwisk, it was also discovered by the Puntan Intellegence Agency that they were an anti-religious paramilitary organization. 

Post meeting, the Antireligious Party in La Punta lost support and later on on October 8th, 2073, exactly 2 years after the crisis started, a movie called "Ni Fortis" was released about the Blizzard Offensive. The name "Ni Fortis" comes from the old Hush Ground Forces anthem "Fortis" which roughly translates to "We were brave" in Esperanto. 

2071 Election

The Williamsbourg-Sulista Crisis/The K-Pop Crisis of Late 2072

The tension started in October of 2072, when Igua-sul embargoed Williamsbourg over their K-Pop ban, which quickly escalated to a naval standoff and for a short period of time a potential nuclear attack from Williamsbourg.

La Punta stood in solidarity with Igua-Sul, but did not wish to involve itself in a war against Williamsbourg. However, La Punta was very helpful to Igua-Sul against allies of Williamsbourg such as Dreamistan, or for a brief time, Nukeya. In fact, when Nukeya joined in support of Williamsbourg by offering Nukeyan weapons and sending their fleet, La Punta wished to prevent Nukeya from assisting Williamsbourg in attacking Igua-Sul, and so in quite possibly the most ambitious naval operation ever, blockaded the drake passage to prevent entry into the southern atlantic via the pacific. Here, La Punta actually violated international maritime law. Nukeya did point this out, but when Nukeya redirected it’s navy to take the african route into the southern atlantic, the drake fleet was redirected to the coast off Africa.

However, Nukeya eventually stood down, returning to normal relations with La Punta and Igua-Sul, although still being “neutral” towards Williamsbourg. However, Nukeya proceeded to  declare war on and attack the Third Mexican Empire due to alliance allegiances.

In the December Robstauxn Marching Band Competition, the bands of the two countries nearly fell into a brawl, humiliating both countries. Soon after that was the Christmas truce, which both countries followed to decrease tensions. The standoff was technically over by March, but on 4 May 2073, Williamsburg withdrew its navy entirely from the south Atlantic.

The 3 Nation Raid

La Punta was kicked out of it’s alliance at the time, because the alliance was going through a merger. As a result, when other countries made the discovery, they took advantage. The Nations of Greater America, Sudan and Kosinehailov. La Punta responded by trying it’s best to wear down the attackers, and most of the country’s defensive attacks were focused on Greater America. To spark patriotism, La Punta declared itself a successor state to the prebalkan country the United States, and specifically pointed out prebalkan American republicans as the cause for the the collapse of the United States, and by extension, the destruction and balkanization of the entire planet. La Punta was able to join a new alliance, called “The Coven”. The alliance members ordered the attacking nations to offer peace or face retaliation, and all did. Regardless, La Punta ultimately spent 80,000 soldiers, 5000 tanks, 100 aircraft and 2 missiles as well as $20M. 

The Dreamistan Crisis

On 5 May 2073, Sulista refugees still in La Punta felt safe to return as the Williamsbourg-Sulista crisis had ended. Aditionally, some Puntans were wishing to travel to Igua-Sul as a vacation spot. However, Zhong Xina II of Dreamistan suggested rerouting planes to Igua-Sul from La Punta into Dreamistan, himself saying:

"I will redirect all planes going to Igua-Sul, and make them land in Dreamistan."

This made the international community nervous, because Dreamistan had committed a !@#$ of it's rebellious Brazilian minority, and Dreamistan had continued bullying Igua-Sul alongside Williamsbourg during the Williamsbourg crisis. La Punta denounced Dreamistan for this, and Zhong Xina further responded:

"Dreamistan has better beaches. Your citizens shouldn't go to the ugly polluted and war torn Igua-Sul beaches."

Much to the dismay of sulista politician Helena Diniz. This was However, La Punta was a nation more willing to protect it's allies from a non-nuclear power. Cabello declared his support for the safe return of sulista refugees, with heaving monitoring to be done of Dreamistan for their threat, to ensure Dreamistan's spies did not find a way to remotely control planes flying to Igua-Sul. Zhong Xina II replied to the Puntan declaration of monitoring:

"Tommy Cabello, Im not so sure about that...Your intelligence agency will NOT BE MONITORING US."

On 8 May 2073, a spy named Acxak Kimacxu from Maliglesia was killed in an espionage operation against an unknown country. Officially, this solidified the start of the crisis. Towards the declaration of his funeral, Zhong Xina II said publicaly, in a mocking tone:

"Rip bozo Acxac"

This was seen disgustingly by the people of La Punta, but also La Punta's allies. Gizé Albuquerque, Igua-Sul's minister of defense said:

"How disrespectful! Dreamistan is in fact the most dishonorable nation i have ever seen!"

At this point, La Punta began to bolster it's military even further, managing to build inland drydocks in Sinjeve out of sheer suspicion.

The Nukeyan Bush War and the Introduction of Bioweapons 

The nation of Nukeya had been suffering from political divisons for awhile, and that was eventually pronounced when the nation fell into a civil war of Nationalists versus Communists. The international community tried to capitalize on this quickly. Dreamistan, being a communist nation was among the first to begin supporting communist Nukeyans. By the time La Punta joined on 14 June 2073, the communist forces had already made progress on a westward push, entrapping nationalist forces in Oostburg and Enterprise. When La Punta involved itself in the bush war, it was in a way funding both sides but more specifically was encouraging and funding a libertarian socialist faction in Kushing to fight against the authoritarian communists, in an attempt to become the primary communists ideologically. Although La Punta was primarily funding the nationalists. Soon, Limberwisk also got to joining in aiding the nationalists in the conflict.

Zhong Xina II became tired of this, and so decided to open up the use of biological weapons against La Punta, Limberwisk, and Igua-Sul. The biological weapon released onto the 3 nations was "COVID Strain X", created by Hua Labs. Dreamistan also used mustard gas. With this, the nationalist allies were weakened. Because of the uncontrollable nature of pathogens, COVID Strain X made it's way to all 3 nations homelands and beyond. Dreamistan had cures, but only wished to give cures to it's allies. A particularly cruel betrayal of marxist morals. La Punta was eventually able to reverse engineer and modify previous COVID vaccines for use against COVID Strain X, but the supply could not match the demand immediately, so COVID Strain X remained a problem for a large duration of the year. This was much to the annoyance or even dismay of nations like Dreamistan. 

Dreamistan's "City of Gods" was a city with a remarkably high amount of glass office buildings. Glass office buildings not being full-window walled buildings, but buildings made entirely of glass. Dreamistan was never highly regarded for it's architecture. Historically it is theorized that Limberwisk's theocratic government wished to make a display out of the bible verse Exodus 21:24 "eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot", and so Limberwisk ordered for jets to fly over the City of Gods to create a sonic boom and destroy glass buildings. An article written by the "City of Gods Sussy Paper" described the scene like this:

"many glass buildings were shattered, and many office workers fell out of their offices, and 700 died. Over 1,000 people were also deafened by the shattering sound."

In response to this, Dreamistan began "Operation Firework". Where they deployed aircraft to shoot fireworks all night and keep the people of Limberwisk awake. They used Fighter Jets, which were faster and less vulnerable to enemy defenses then bombers, and will install extremely loud engines on them to keep citizens awake. Dreamistan also started "Operation Inflation", where planes dropped large amounts of the Limberwisk Krone in hopes of causing inflation and forcing Limberwisk to use another currency, destroying the economy. However, Limberwisk was not severely affected by these operations.

Soon, Libertarian communists in the Nukeyan city of Enterprise began to rebel against the authoritarian communists which had suffered defeats against the nationalists in the west. The authoritarian communists quickly capitulated, joining the libertarian communists and reorganizing against the nationalist coalition. Around this time, La Punta decided to change it's strategy. Zhong Xina was forced to ally with the more powerful libertarian communists to avoid wasting resources, and Cabello decided to follow in hopes of securing a level of influence over Nukeya if the communist coalition defeated the nationalists. So for this period of time, La Punta fought alongside Dreamistan.

Soon, the nationalists fell, and a communist government was placed in Nukeya. Unfortunately for La Punta, Dreamistan won the tug of war for influence in Communist Nukeya.

Dreamistan Civil War

On 1 August 2073, Dreamistan had it's own civil war.

This civil war was a 3-way conflict, becoming a war of democrats, technocrats and the status quo communist government. La Punta once again found itself supporting 2 sides, the Technocrats and the Democrats in hopes of having Dreamistan adopt a mixed model of democracy and technocracy, similar to La Punta. La Punta uniquely armed democratic farmers with banjos to aid the propaganda effort, and that wasn't a total failure. Limberwisk had started a new faction called the "Integralists", who were described as similar to technocrats but also were compared to the prebalkan ideology of fascism practiced in Italy circa the 1930s. The Integralists were enemies of the democrats and communists, intended to fight alongside the technocrats. However, this didn't stay the goal for very long, as Zhong Xina II organized a communist and technocratic coalition. By the end of the civil war, the communists and technocrats won.

Post-War Dreamistan implemented harsh environmental laws and placed the technocrats in charge of infrastructure. The new government promised superior military equipment for the sole reason of now being technocratic. With the new technocratic government, Cabello even made an attempt to reset the relationship between La Punta and Dreamistan. However, the dictatorial Zhong Xina II remained in power, so despite the new government insisting otherwise, not much changed. Dreamistan's government showed as much to the world when 2,000 pro-democracy protestors gathered in the City of Gods, attacking riot police. The government responding by killing the protestors with RPGs, Snipers and Miniguns.

Gizé Albuquerque of Igua-Sul made a statement on the massacre, saying:

"I think Dreamistan will never changes."

Even Tom Giffard of West New York, an ally of Dreamistan's, commented:

"Thats excessive."

Entrance of Spain into the Dreamistan Crisis

At 6:09 on 12 September 2073, 3 barracks experienced explosions that stole the lives of many of the soldiers sleeping in them. In total, as many as 12,000 soldiers died. Dreamistan had initially been suspected, but intel on Dreamistan suggested that it's intelligence agency was not capable of such a large espionage operation. Just in case, La Punta arranged a summit with the nation of Eire, Dreamistan's alliance leader. Espionage operations of that nature actually appeared to be against alliance policy, and Eire was willing to collaborate with La Punta if Dreamistan had organized such an espionage operation. But because no other nation was found to be hostile to La Punta, this made the population nervous. Regardless of whether they wanted to, they had to wait for answers.

On 18 September 2073, New Hush Network from Limberwisk wrote an article on a board game called "Communistopoly", which was created to mock communism. Many had a good laugh, although Zhong Xina II threatened to bomb Limberwisk with further amounts of COVID Strain X. Additionally, Igua-Sul changed it's flag to a distorted copy of Dreamistan's flag to mock it. They even began using the old Puntan misname of "Liarland".

On the early morning of 27 September, 2073, there was another explosion in a Puntan barracks, but the spy planting the bomb was caught and identified to be from the nation of Spain lead by Queen Leonor de Borbon. Promptly, La Punta sent diplomats to Spain, where they conversed with the general and effectively leader of the country in all but name, General Audon del Villar.

The crisis ended on 15 November 2073, with the signing of the Treaty of Jordensby.

Treaty of Peace

Dreamistan will:

-Deactivate all biological weapon, providing aid to countries affected

-Pay Igua-Sul 5 million Orbis Notes in war reparations to be paid by 15 November 2080

 

Igua-Sul will:

-Change its flag back to normal.

 

Both nations will:

-Respect each other's sovereignty and independence.

-Respect each other's maritime borders and airspace.

-Remove troops from their borders.

-Make a demilitarized zone at least one kilometer long, with the amount of land used for the zone being evenly split in a 1:1 ratio.

-Not declare war on each other for 3 years

-If signed, and one article is ignored, the nation who ignored the article will pay 5000 Orbis Notes to the other signatory.

However, this treaty would not remain effective for too long.

Death of Cabello

On 9 November 2073, at 9:05 AM, founder of La Punta Tommy Cabello was found dead in his office. Rapidly, an emergency alert broadcast was shared on TV, Mobile Devices, Social Media, and over air. Prime Minister Robertaux Vjilk addressed the nation. 

"My fellow Puntans. The founder, the father, of La Punta - has died this morning. Medical examiners were at least able to confirm it was via natural means of a heart attack. Regardless, we are deeply saddened. La Punta's government will mourn Cabello's death, and we wish the best for our comrade in the afterlife. The nation will mourn, but we will continue the same as we did during your life. We will for the sake of Puntans and Humans collectively, continue to spread on the legacy of Esperantism."

After Vjilk's speech, the anthem of the ideology of Esperantism "La Espero" was broadcast via the same means as the Emergency Alert Broadcast, alongside the faint sound of sirens. After “La Espero” faded, the sirens still remained and people stood in the streets, standing still and silent. After the sirens also faded, they went about their normal days with less enthusiasm. The nation was described as having a dismal mood. The day became known as 9/11. However, it is not observed by any more but a minute long moment of silence. The next year on 6 February 2074, Cabello's 70th birthday became a national holiday, called "Founder's Day". However, it is not observed by any defined means to this day.

Damnation of Dreamistan and Operation Jungle Storm

-In late December, Dreamistan was kicked out of it's alliance, and the international community took oppurtunity as quickly as possible. The first nations to declare war included Axolotland, Hadi, and the Zentekan Empire. Their original goal being specifically to raid Dreamistan for it's money and resources. When La Punta received news of Dreamistan's moment of weakness, it made a plan to enter and disarm Dreamistan of it's biological weapons through the raiding of Hua Labs itself.

"Operation Jungle Storm", to be carried out by the "NeoPLIer" coalition, was a recycled idea from an old plan drafted by the Puntan War Office in the Vintradomo. That idea was just the "PLIer Coalition." When the idea of the PLIer coalition was original drafted, the participants were going to be La Punta, Limberwisk and Igua-Sul. However, Limberwisk rejected the idea as it was risky to go against Dreamistan's alliance. However, a statement by Tom Giffard of West New York showed that the alliance they once shared with Dreamistan was "unhelpful".

"Our stupid alliance can't even protect us from pirates, this sucks - I hate pirates so much.

Ultimately, that would not even matter with Dreamistan being kicked out of it's alliance. The NeoPLIer coalition was made of La Punta, Axolotland, Spain, Bjein, Nopolia, the Rinne Republic, and the Zentekan Empire on 23 December 2073. To Northern's annoyance, Igua-Sul abandoned the Treaty of Jordensby and funded the anti-Dreamistan coalition in hopes of disarming the country of it's dangerous bioweapons.

The NeoPLIer coalition organized a special task force made of soldiers but also scientists and specifically scientists which were capable of safely removing or destroying pathogens. The coalition raided Hua Labs on christmas morning, and destroyed all pathogen-making equipment while pathogen samples were isolated and placed in an armored convoy to be sent to La Punta. To ensure Dreamistan could not restart operations as easily, La Punta placed dynamite inside the empty building to blow it up. However, there was a miscalculation in the amount of dynamite used, and the explosion ended up bigger than intended.

300 Dreamistanis and 22 Puntans died. However, La Punta still ultimately left with a negative number of casualties, as while raiding Hua Labs they simultaneously offered for any citizens of Dreamistan which disliked the country to leave, migrating to other countries, ultimately La Punta. 470 had decided to leave the country with the rapidly gone task force. By 28 December, all Puntan presence from Dreamistan was gone, and the dangerous materials were sent home to La Punta for further examination and extermination.

Dreamistan further suffered at the hands of it's raiders and finally had the city of Hei Chen nuked by Hadi. Dremistan is estimated to have lost 9 Million Orbis Notes in money, 3 Million in resources, 5 Million in infrastructure, and 6 Million by being navally blockaded and thus blocked from the global trade. In addition to even this, General Audon del Villar made a point to personally assassinate Zhong Xina II. Of course, Dreamistan denied it to it's people but later admitted to their leader's death. From here, Dreamistan entered an age of strife and chaos.

Achieving Enrichment of Uranium

Uranium exports have always been an important part of La Punta's economy, but oil had historically been bigger, but that is primarily because of it's ease of extraction. Some critics had called La Punta a “petrol state”, much to the dismay of mostly environmentally conscious Puntans. Before his death, Cabello was well known to have hated that La Punta had to work with it's local resource of oil to maintain revenue for the nation.

But on 12 March 2074, La Punta completed the construction of a uranium enrichment center. Enriched uranium is a type of uranium in which the percent composition of uranium-235 (written 235U) has been increased through the process of isotope separation. Naturally occurring uranium is composed of three major isotopes: uranium-238 (238U with 99.2739–99.2752% natural abundance), uranium-235 (235U, 0.7198–0.7202%), and uranium-234 (234U, 0.0050–0.0059%). 235U is the only nuclide existing in nature (in any appreciable amount) that is fissile with thermal neutrons. Enriched uranium is a critical component for both civil nuclear power generation and military nuclear weapons.

After the construction of the uranium enrichment center, uranium increased in use as a source of profit over oil. The Parliament of La Punta was considering emphasizing this fact by using a faintly glowing uranium-made paint on it's own flag, similar to how it currently does on the Puntan Shilling. PM Vjilk said of this accomplishment: 

"I do so wish Cabello were here to see the monumental step in La Punta's history. This was one of his dreams.”

Robstauxno Missile Incident and Liberation of the Freedom Lands

In the weeks before, the nation of the Freedom Lands had suffered a theocratic uprising which would grow into a larger revolution, aided by none other than George Ivanov. The theocratic government organized called itself Szent Kegleyem. Some in La Punta suggested an earlier intervention, but it was decided against. When George Ivanov fled La Punta after the failure of his theocratic regime, he fled to Siberia. However, he did travel the world after, making his way to the Freedom Lands where he encouraged a theocratic revolution. Their movement took over the country and acquired missiles, which Ivanov would use for his personal revenge against La Punta. On 2 July 2074, Robstauxno was struck by missiles, and 66,600 people died. The missiles were nuclear-tipped, but most were destroyed via La Punta's iron dome. Limberwisk actually offered refuge to Ivanov, offering themselves as a less cruel substitute to La Punta, knowing the punishment he would receive if in the hands of the Puntan government. Although once missiles struck La Punta, everyone agreed to send half of the nation's military to address the threat. Puntan troops rapidly fought through guerillas and more organized armies to Birkahalász. By 13 July 2074, Szent Kegleyem surrendered, but under the condition that Ivanov alongside the leader of the revolution, Erwin Howzier, would be put under Hush instead of Puntan custody.

Ayyslamic Raids and Birth of the Nationalist Party

On 15 September 2074, the nations of Azkaroth and Tree Land were discovered to be performing espionage operations against La Punta. The Union of Proletariat Cheese alongside Azkaroth had declared war on La Punta a day after, on 16 September 2074. This is a sample of PM Vjilk's speech in response.

"Yesterday, the Ayyslamic Caliphate has attacked us. In their initial attack, they killed 70,000 soldiers and destroyed 5,000 tanks, 500 aircraft. If they're attacking La Punta because the see the entire alliance of The Coven as 'haram', than it is the entire alliance's problem, and perhaps La Punta's. If the national leaders ordered an attack on La Punta because they saw La Punta's own domestic conduct as "haram", than it is definitely La Punta's problem, but also The Coven's as well. What we know is that La Punta had no prior hostility toward the Ayyslamic Caliphate or any of it's members."

(He drinks from a cup of water)

"Imagine having such a pathetic nation that you're incapable of producing your own resources."

(The crowd erupts into applause)

"We should not let these nations of pirate scum steal La Punta's honestly-earned resources!"

(more applause)

"And to the nations which have chosen to attack us...You have permanently stunted any chances of relations between our nations. Regardless of whether you agree to an premature peace, we will remember this behavior on our soil. Or snow, I should say."

Because of the situation, A rather hostile environment formed in La Punta. Shortly after the discovery of who carried out the attack, angry citizens rioted outside of and destroyed L'Almasgxidaljanubiuxo, La Punta's biggest mosque. 23 muslims died as a result, and it gave La Punta some diplomatic embarrassment with islamic nations. While very few actually drove their hate against all muslims, the Puntan people grew a more nationalist attitude. As a result, the Puntan people created a nationalist party, the "Naciisma Partio". The leader's name was Vinsten Kruz, mayor of Robstauxno at the time. He announced a bid for the 2075 Election, below is a sample of the speech he gave.

"We the people of La Punta shall not be pushed around by anyone. We will get revenge on those who have wronged our nation, whether it be by the firing of a bullet into Burzum's brain, or the sight of a mushroom cloud hanging over Dhan Middog. I also come here to say another thing. I am declaring my campaign for the prime minister of La Punta. If Vjilk can't prevent nations from attacking us, I alone can fix it, and show a refusal of accepting our past. A Casus Belli does not expire like a gallon of milk. A Casus Belli will sit on a people's bedstand forever, staring them down every night, until the atomic sun rises. Death to Azkaroth! Glory to La Punta!"

Founding of Drejkuxo and the Ayyslamic Recession

La Punta having stockpiled many resources at the time, was looking to rapidly spend it's stockpiled rsources. In it's logic, If there's nothing to steal, there's little point to maintaining a war. You can steal resources and money, but you can't steal a city. During the raid, La Punta avoided being blockaded, allowing for it to safely continue trading with the outside world. With this advantage, the government began rapidly selling it's stockpiled resources, and on 22 September 2074, those acquired funds were used to finally make the settlement of Drejkuxo an official city. Drejkuxo had also been able to host air bases, drydocks and barracks, which given it's position in the Sudesxetinsuloj(The Southern Shetland Islands) is a very strategic position to hold for national defense. However, Drejkuxo's flash integration caused further problems with the city and nation in the future. Economic experts predicted that a resource dumping strategy could cause a recession, and they were later proven right. Soon after on 12 October 2074, the war did end, however - in total, La Punta had to make severe concessions. It surrendered resources in addition to what was already looted. La Punta also would spend $30,000,000 Orbis Notes to repair all damaged infrastructure. However, Vjilk's refused to allow his government to sign the nation into debt, instead preffering a gradual reconstruction fueled by solely Puntan revenue. La Punta also hoped to replace it's killed population, so PM Vjilk invited extra immigrants into the country to repopulate. Of course, time and money was also spent to rebuild the entire Puntan Army and Air Force, which were utterly decimated. However, the Puntan Navy came out of the war with prestige, as only 1 Puntan sailor died from the whole conflict. As a middle finger, Puntan citizens in Cxeftero raided a warehouse full of cheese and either burned it or dumped it into the ocean. Many called this the "Cxeftero Cheese Party".

The situation was more dire than some realized, because besides of the money required to rebuild La Punta's infrastructure, it would also cost $40,000,000 Orbis Notes to refill the nation's resource stockpile. But on top of all of that, La Punta needed to spend the money rebuilding it's military, meaning the nation was completly unable to enjoy the fruits of it's revenue. The revenue was reduced as commercial infrastructure was itself also damaged, sending La Punta down a economic hill, and a recession was declared on 19 November 2074. There was an immediate effect on people's daily lives. With many workplaces destroyed, not only was there no profit, but no wages, let alone jobs, so most people were unemployed. The only low supply and high demand jobs were construction workers. The public called it "the Ayyslamic Recession". During the war, even the nation's food stockpile was also sold off to prevent pirates from profiting on it, and only 4 months worth of food remained, so the Technocratic Council prepared a "scarcity contingency plan." If things became severe enough and the nation entered a state of emergency, it was expected La Punta's democratic government would be defanged and the Technocratic Council would be given total authority until further notice. Food was scarce in stores, only imported non-perishables or fish being available. While La Punta did not reach a state of emergency, the quality of life was greatly reduced for a long period of time.
