Having emerged from the chaos of the fall of the Warsaw Pact, the people of the region found themselves finally free from the grasp of tyrannical rule, only to be thrust into the utter calamity of the Yugoslav Wars. The psyche of the people, long haunted by the spectre of poverty and repression, have sought to take this opportunity to forge a new state free from the chaos of starvation and death. The spearhead in this endeavour is Canadian billionaire entrepreneur turned economist and political thinker, Oliver Indricks, who had initially devoted vast sums into humanitarian projects and grand investment into the region. Seeking a place to implement in action his theories on economic and social development, inspired by neoliberal and progressive thought, he poured all of his fortune into spending on the region, to the point that as the breakaway groups became failed states, his influence became the largest as it was his assets that began to carry on the basic functions of state. When Indricks proclaimed the ambition to create a state focused on efficiency, not bogged down by politics, concerned with prosperity, not mired in ethnic or religious hatred, the people who had received so much from his works decided to put their trust in this peculiar foreigner, and thus sufficient buy-in for the Balkanian state was ready such that the concept of the new country gained more legitimacy than the warlords that currently ruled in their stead. And so, the State of Balkania was born, ever dedicated to the ethos of building a future where all can become prosperous and free. It remains to be seen how well this dream can be achieved, or if the people were right to place their trust in Indricks.
