Event Suggestion Thread

I don't need anything too crazy here, just looking for suggestions for a potential events system. These would be random happenings that could affect your nation, a region (continent), or the world. Some possibilities are:

Earthquake

Volcanic Eruption

Sinkhole

Tsunami

Wildfire

Drought

Alien Invasion

Zombie Apocalypse

Celebrity Kidnapping

These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. Obviously any/all natural disasters are a go-to, and you're free to post those, just try not to get too repetitive with what others have posted. Lastly, they don't have to be "real" (as in my Zombie Apocalypse idea) but don't get too silly with these things. A Zombie Apocalypse event would probably be a Halloween ;) type thing, as a sort of holiday themed joke/fun event, etc.

Eventually I'd like to create the engine for events to operate on, and browse through this topic and pick through all of your ideas to make as events! The effects (good or bad) will be decided later, so just try to come up with event ideas.

Have at it!

Disease outbreak

Terrorist attack on religious site

Avalanche

Massive flood/blizzard/hurricane

Workers' revolution

Political coup (?)

Rapture

Hordes of rabid animal descends on X capital

Heatwave?

I wouldn't count celebrity kidnapping as noteworthy international event. You're setting the bar really, really low there

Celebrity Kidnapping was something that I imagine would've been simply a national event. It was just a thought as well, nothing set in stone.

Event idea:

The two most powerful nations in the world are each given one hydrogen bomb. They then are forced to declare war on each other by Sheepy, and peace cannot be achieved (it must expire or one side must beat the other side).

This is very small

Do you really try to find everything I post?

Nope, you just happen to post in the same threads as me.

Also, please make these events extremely uncommon if you do decide to implement them. Thanks.

It's a useful mental exercise. Through the years, many thinkers have been fascinated by it. But I don't enjoy playing. It was a game that was born during a brutal age when life counted for little. Everyone believed that some people were worth more than others. Kings. Pawns. I don't think that anyone is worth more than anyone else. Chess is just a game. Real people are not pieces. You can't assign more value to some of them and not others. Not to me. Not to anyone. People are not a thing that you can sacrifice. The lesson is, if anyone who looks on to the world as if it was a game of chess, deserves to lose.

TheNG - My favorite part is when Steve suggests DEIC might have done something remotely successful, then gets massively shit on for proposing such a stupid idea.

Mass shooting.

Risk of it happening is based on gun control policy.

Casualties based on policy. Destruction for infrastructure as well.

No military equipment: 30% - 7 or up- Between 10-50

No handguns: 15% - 4 or up-Between 5-20 infra

No guns: 5% - 2 or up-Between 0-10 infra

One of my favorite games of all time (unfortunately, haven't played it in a really long time) is Heroes of Might and Magic. In the latest installment, the game has a list of weekly events which randomly affect combat and growth. Here is a full list: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/563124-Week-of-list-complete-in-order-with-effects-Forums

But, taking inspiration from that, here are some things that I thought of:

1. Festival season (-X% income)

2. Discovery of new coal/bauxite/primary resource vein (+X% production of raw resources)

I am particularly interested in the potential in affecting combat, so here are some other stuff:

1. Snowstorm (Tank Fuel Consumption +X%) [perhaps only during winter months?]

2. Heavy Rains (Aircraft damage -X%/Missile Damage -X%)

3. Rough Waves (Ship Fuel Consumption +X%)

4. Heavy Mist (Ship damage -X%)

5. Sandstorm (Soldier/Tank damage -X%)

And I think this could be universally applied, so instead of just as a national event, perhaps make it a continental one? I think it might make people mix things up a little when it comes to combat.
