President Harriman has named controversial communist leader William Foster as the new Secretary of State. The United States accepts the offer and suggests that a drill be held between Canada, Malta, and the U.S. on August 15 (IRL). The United States plans to bring its submarine fleet and aircraft carriers.

 

It also offers to hold a U.S.-Soviet drill that will include the Marines and a large portion of its Air Force on August 16. Further talks will be made privately before the final drill details are announced.

That doesn't mean you get to do it. We simply ignored you. Truman was busy getting re-elected, and Harriman is moving into his office.

 

The United States accepts Malta's offer, if it is still available of course. It rejects Brazil's deal, Harriman has adopted a very popular policy of refusing to sell military equipment to other nations in order to prevent conflict in a world that is desperate for peace. It does, however, offer to establish embassies in Malta (I may have already done that), Brazil, and Canada. In an odd measure, Harriman has pardoned the Soviet guards and allowed them to return home. He would also like to continue the work to strengthen ties between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, recognizing that this was the act of a few deranged individuals who somehow were given a position that involved being armed while inside the White House.

 

The Soviet government would also be supportive of furthering ties, and would propose another round of talks, as the first ones had been interrupted by the shooting.

"We are of the opinion that Austria should be allowed a return to sovereignty, under certain conditions. Namely, Austria agrees to permanent neutrality and maintains a military of no more than 20,000, with no combat aircraft, and agrees to not host any foreign military forces. We feel that anything more than this would be a threat to our allies in Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

 

We would also wish that Austria agree to respect the USIA's property, and its exemption from taxation. We are, however, willing to sell the USIA's assets to Austria."

 

He looked at the other delegates, and waited.

Malta's Minister of the Arts and Cultural Development would like to extend an offer to several Russian Systema masters and several Chinese Longquan masters. We would like to extend an offer of a "live-in" contract here in Malta. Each master who accepts our offer would be allowed to live in Malta all expenses paid. Free housing and everything to include a living stipend. The offer is extended to the master and their immediate families. It would also include 2 paid roundtrip 2 week vacations back to their home countries annually. We would like to offer the contracts on a 5 year plan for each master. Being a small island nation, we would like to better train our troops and civilians.

"I can agree to neutrality but due to that condition I would like no restrictions on Austrian Military forces as we will have to rely on ourselves for our defense. As for the USIA, it is a soviet creation of corporations that were forced from Austrian Control as most of them are Austrian not German. So I while we can respect their 'property' I ask that all Austrian companies be returned to Austria."

Before tensions get anymore strained, the Maltese government would like to host talks between us and the U.K. to discuss our current situation. The great war has taken a huge toll on both our great nations. I'm sure we can come to some agreements that would benefit us both. What say you?

If the UK were to do this, it would greatly decrease the kindness with which the United States is treating its many debts.

(OOC: Yeah, I'm sure. Even if your country doesn't technically know, it's hard to pretend you don't know something when you are doing stuff in this kind of game. It's better to just make it so the OOC person doesn't know it either.

Malta excepts joint naval operations with the U.S. and Canada in the Med. We also accept the U.S.s request to a leased land agreement for a forward operating base to include a deep water habor, airfields, barracks and housing for military families. We would also request that the U.S. bring in steel and lumber to help in the rebuilding of our country.

WTF.....can't a brutha catch a break!?! How about after the floods..."Malta finds the worlds largest oil reserves" or something cool like that.

Canada is the first to respond to Malta. We send more engineers, construction workers, military personnel to keep order and nurses, along with food and water for the Maltan citizens living in their destroyed city.

 

We approve of the Mediterranean training exercise and send troops and stuff.

 

Nuclear research continues in Canada, at Labratory Number One in the Northwest Territories. Meanwhile, bases are set up in the Arctic to prevent a Russian attack. The bases will serve Canada at the moment.

 

Canada asks for the United States to cover half the cost, in exchange we will provide nuclear detection for the USA.
