You can paraphrase, clarifying meaning, or you can paraphrase preserving the exact meaning, which is what I did in your case. In addition, as I said, it is perfectly possible to apply the word 'exact' to the meaning of the resulting paraphrase, as well as the paraphrase itself - though why you would assume the latter, I don't know: a paraphrase is not a quote. I also notice that you're absolutely fine with debating semantics and definitions with me here, but not actually making your original 'incredibly detailed and airtight argument'.
