9/24/2014 - Small Change & Added Security

Hi guys!

I'm making an announcement so that you're aware of two things.

First, I've made a small gameplay change. Tanks, Aircraft, and Ships are now restricted by population size much like Soldiers are. The added caps for each unit is as follows:

Tanks: 1% of Population

Aircraft: 0.5% of Population

Ships: 0.25% of Population

These aren't particularly low caps, and there are only a small few actually above the caps (just the tank cap, really). This will not apply retroactively, it will only keep you from buying more tanks if you're already over that limit or attempting to go over it. This change is made in effort to help combat the issue where some players are able to field massive militaries while having very small populations and almost no infrastructure. Even then, it is not that restrictive, and having 1% of your population in tanks should be more than adequate in a war (remember - this applies to everyone).

Secondly, I've added some additional security to how you login to the game. While we haven't had any issues yet (and I'm hoping we will continue to remain secure) I've taken a proactive approach to how we treat security, rather than reactive. I've updated the login process so that if you enter your password wrong, you will be forced to enter a captcha to prove you are human. This will make sure that there are no "brute force" hackings - where some sort of script could attempt to login over and over again using a list of possible passwords until one is successful. While I understand this may be a slight bit tedious the few times you might enter your password wrong, the added security it adds to the game should be more than worth it.

Lastly, with the issues we've seen lately on other websites, I'd just like to remind everyone how important it is to stay secure online. I would recommend you use a unique password on every website with at least 15 characters. While this may be ridiculous to try and remember such complex passwords (and so many of them) there are many browser tools that you can use to save and store your passwords for you so that you don't have to remember them. These safeguards should help prevent access to your accounts on different websites should your information on one site ever be illicitly accessed.

Thanks again guys for playing Politics & War, and know that I'm doing everything I can to promote the game and its mechanics, as well as our security here on the web!

Could we change it to the third failed login? I almost always fail my first password attempt because I automatically type my old password for this site instead of my new one. Solves the same problem with slightly less annoyance.

Edit: Also I hate reCAPTCHA, I much prefer cybernations captcha

(yes, I already encountered it)

seems like again tanks are being targeted. I don't think is necessary. let the game be without too many restrictions. if there are people who thinks they can stay low and raid , then let them be. no need to purposely revise the rules to handle this group of people

Yup agreed it make sense. But the thing is are we not giving too much attention to that particular group of people and what they are doing? IMHO those people are raiding just for publicity (besides the $ that is), look at those Raiders Returns and then the Red Guards, how much excitement they got themselves into especially DEMON. arguing with everyone in those thread. I would say he is seeking for the spot light and publicity and etc and we gave it to him. Now he probably would say Sheepy changed the rule of the game because of him.

Wouldn't it be better just ignore him, we identify those inactive nation ( who probably isn't interested in the game anymore) so that they have no targets to raid. And they are forced to go up to the level of other nations, given the bad blood between them and everyone in orbis, I think it wouldn't take that long have his 3 defensive slots all taken up

well i read in a report on cyber security that forcing the users to change passwords every 30 days halves the risk of getting your account stolen coz in 90% of the time another site will get haxed and peeps always use the same PW everywhere

That would be utterly obnoxious and far to over the top for a text based video game. It's not like PW is a government site or something.

apparently attepting to buy 50 tanks, from 0 tanks, pushes the limit of 1% of 146,524...

This is why we need a speed round for testing purposes, so that small bugs in the code don't ruin everything.

I think tanks, ships, and aircraft should be limited by soldier count, not population.

Soldier count is tied to population anyway, so all you'd really be doing is adding extra work for minimal gain; besides, it's entirely possible that a country might have more tanks than they have trained crews for (We Have Reserves* and all that, don'tchaknow).

Now, if you wanted to limit the number of tanks you could use in an attack based on the number of soldiers you're deploying... that would make more sense.
