Make anonymous ads possible

Looking at the ads currently running, almost all of them are aimed at trying to get people to join their alliance and while that is a fine use of ads, it is also rather dull. When you consider what ads are, a way to reach a large portion of the game, then they could be used for so much more. They could be used for spreading propaganda (Alliance X are bad!), they could be used to try and sow discontent between people (Alliance Y are so much better than alliance X!) or they could be used to expose secret information to the public (Alliance X are planning to attack alliance Y at update!). Yet we rarely see them used for any of these purposes and I believe the reason for this is that you cannot publish an ad anonymously. If you want to make an ad lambasting an alliance for being terrible, then you probably don't want the backlash of that ad to fall back on your own alliance. The same if you want to use ads to publish sensitive information (and just to be clear I mean sensitive as in things alliances don't want people to know, not, you know, personal stuff), then you would not want it traced back to you.

Personally I know that I've had ideas for several ads, in the past, that I have refrained from publishing because I didn't want to cause a headache for my alliance's FA department.

So, what will this idea, if published accomplish? Well it might lead to more people using ads. It might also lead to some drama as people start firing shots at each other through the use of ads. Overall, I just see it as making the ads a more interesting mechanic.

And the cons? Well some might argue that the ability to post stuff anonymously is a bad thing. Personally I don't agree, but I know some people will inevitably bring it up, so figured I might as well put it out there from the get go. Other than that I can't really think of anything.

Perhaps if the anonymous ads cost notably more. At least double what they do now.

Alternatively, one could find a rando or an AWOL player to post the ad, making your own deals and adding unique levels of possible complications and interactions.

So really, I could go one way or the other.

Back in my day, we didn't anonymously post up ads to attack others.  We just did it.

 

On a serious note, while the idea is sound, it also promotes cowardice.  So I'm kinda torn on it.  Meh, would be interesting to see used.

Also, most of you guys can't make a good meme to save your life, so the anonymous ad is pointless. Just read some OWF salt.

 

I've made ads shitting on alliances before.

I'd gladly leak sensitive info.

any more cowardice than people who raid inactive's, or start a war and spam fort and nuke? the game is full of cowards, even the "banks" and other things are going on so this wont make much difference

Yes its significantly more cowardly, because you can hold raiders, or Vaca Mode abusers accountable if you so choose.  However, anonymity removes accountability.
