Dubayoo
...some people don't believe God exists. Others believe God is an all-powerful and mysteriously benevolent being. What if both sides are wrong in that he exists and his existence actually adheres to natural laws so advanced we aren't capable of understanding them? In turn, God created us just to experiment with to see what happens? The "soul" would just be the ounce of self-determination granted to allow us to seem to do what we will, and the "afterlife" would just be the transition that ounce goes through after our bodies are extinguished. Perhaps this would even mean the afterlife involves us stumbling across a foggy plain where a hunched over crackling lunatic turns around and mocks us for believing in something else. We could deny this is the truth in believing it's a test of character (or perhaps a megalomaniac with a god complex), but the lunatic could just leave us be to our eternal patience... ...and say after waiting an eternity since we don't have conventional anxieties anymore that compel us to do something after a period of time, that mad scientist came back and said, "I told you so."
