Argo's Intro

Four years ago, I started playing another social strategy game.  I won't say what it is, but just know I have been:

The game I've played had become stagnant for a number of reasons, and I was wondering for a while how I could grab more people to join it.  In the middle of that, I was watching some HoI4 playthroughs, and stumbled across this one:

The idea intrigued me even though I didn't really believe in it, so I looked up what the Holy Britannian Empire was.  One of the top links was the PnW alliance, so I clicked on it before discovering this game.  When I signed up, the alliance happened to send me one of those automatic invitations, so I joined it.  For a week and something, I was part of it, but nobody really socialized over there, so I was wondering what was so special about it.  On top of that, the HBE alliance in this game doesn't really represent what the HBE is in Code Geass that's emulated in that youtube video.  Leadership begets loyalty, but there was no leadership to be loyal to.

Along with this, I played baseball too since HBE didn't have its city grant program rolling from the war going on.  I didn't join for the grant program and didn't know it existed until they told me it wasn't up and running, but I still needed cash.  It took me 5 days to make $777k and finally break even.  Now I make that much in an hour.

Around the same time, some other alliances and players were telling me that the alliance leader of the HBE is a lunatic who nobody likes and I should join their alliances, so I started questioning if it was a great idea to stay around.  I ended up messaging Hades about this, and without a word of explanation, he just kicked me.  I've no idea why he did, but my best guess is he's just anti-social and anticipated he couldn't do what it would take to hold onto someone who's interested in roleplaying the theme of what his alliance represents.  Therefore he felt embarrassed, but didn't want to admit to it.

In any case, I got approached by several alliances afterwards.  Resplendent, GDA, KT, and UPN all sent me PMs.  I approached t$ as well, and all five of these alliances sent me invitations to join.  I turned them down though for various reasons.  Resplendent and GDA didn't seem to have decent grant programs, and the other three alliances seemed to be too strong.  I've played social strategy games for a while, and I know what it's like to be on top.  When I came here, I was looking for something else to have fun with.

I tried asking Justin, the leader of Commonwealth, about HBE as well, but he never responded to me.  I asked him since the Commonwealth has a British history, so I figured maybe there'd be a link going on.  If he followed up, I might have joined him instead.  We've talked a bit on Discord on some RRR shows, but that was long after.

There was also the fact that NPO and Pantheon blocked me in the market when trying to do small sales, and I didn't want to be associated with UPN or t$ as associates of them.  KT also has the same name as the Knights Templar fraternity in real life that's a branch of Freemasonry, and my fraternal order in real life isn't allowed to associate with them.  I asked if they were different, and they said yea, but when we were talking about values, their values compared to the real life Knights Templar, so it seemed too shady to consider.

Bluebear approached me on Discord eventually, and stuck with me for a while, trying to convince me to dive into the pirate life.  I wasn't sure at first, but he kept at it.  I liked the idea of playing a neutral third side still instead of joining either coalition in the war, and the opportunity to mix things up regularly from raiding was a fun idea.  I know social strategy games can get stuck in their ways, so I figured it'd be fun to make a difference.  Eventually, we ended up talking about politics since he was writing some papers, and I helped him write them.  We didn't agree on everything, but that didn't matter.  I wasn't trying to make him write what I believed in anyway.  What was appealing was how he interacted while writing the papers that showed he was openminded and thoughtful as well as willing to admit to his own faults.  He showed good leadership qualities that deserved loyalty.

Such was the beginning of the pirate life.  I didn't start raiding right away since I didn't have anything to raid with, but I did eventually...

...well...

...kind of.

I started mobilizing, and within 2 hours of doing so, someone declared war on me.  Apparently, this guy was hunting down Arrgh! members for a while too.  I organized with the guys he was hunting down, and even though he was 100 points better than me, I ended up beating him because of that organization.  He said he didn't care afterwards, and since then, he deleted his country.  Regardless, that was my introduction to war.  Bluebear was smart enough to send me a small loan to cover my building that I repaid within a couple hours. This was after being told by other guys in the alliance that you don't win every war and I was concerned about defeatism.  It showed that Bluebear knew how to be resourceful.  He also said he trusted me, so that was reassuring too.

I started raiding after that, and things went well for 20 or so wars.  I ran into a few counters, but they were easily handled.  I paid off one, I talked with another, and beat back a third.  Some Arrgh! mates pitched in too to watch my back which gave me more reassurance.

Eventually, I found some commie alliance with three members that were easy divide and conquer targets.  I peaced one, smashed the second, and when the third countered, I beat him back.  The second one got poached away as well to join Arrgh!  He left since though.

Regardless, I anticipated that I had to make an impression to hold onto the guy, and I wanted to check his loyalty.  At the same time, I wanted to form a raiding squad with two other members so we could grow together.  Some targets and rivals were listed in the messages I sent to them which included members in an allied alliance to the one the poached member belonged to.

Unfortunately, one of the guys I wanted to form the raiding squad with jumped the gun before we were ready, so for the sake of fraternity, I had to declare war as well to watch his back.  The target was in Lordaeron...

...and everyone knows what happened after that.

Will there be a movie adaptation?

The prequels to this prequel deserve to be adapted first.  :-P
