Welcome to democratics good friend! TFP welcomes another user of its greatest defense and decision making apparatus! Just make sure to stay away from Monarchists and dictators, especially those Communists.

Oh well I was hopping for a better reception than this but I guess most of the world of orbis is still caught up in monarchy.

This is because there's historic precedent on Politics and War that a largely democratic system just doesn't work. There are many alliances that have been around for a long while and are of high-quality, yet still have some democratic elements. However, alliances that are very democratic usually just don't work out for a variety of reasons.

...And historical precedence in real life, too, if we're talking about direct democracy.

good initiative Valkyrie.

Orbis should be able to learn the better way. Thalmor this didn't work because Orbis at that time wasn t a mature environment. Also many players are extremely imature. It may work now.

The way it works now/until now is that alliances dictate ww politics therefore undermining state sovereignty. You don't comply you get raided. This is not ok and just kills all the other possibilities that could make this game great. So far we re a bunch of retarded kids whos only achievement in life is a ww monopoly in a game whether it's orbis or china. that's just stupid and narrow minded.

We are under the siege of authoritarian dictatorship and pawns in the grand scheme of a few guys that happen to be first to discover China or land on Orbis.

Orbis. Rebel!!! There is a better way.

About how democracy works... there was that theorem - Condorcet Jury Theorem that was supposed to prove that democracies do work.

That theorem isn't practical for the real world. It doesn't directly apply to decisions with more than 2 outcomes. There can be multiple choices and in order to choose the "most correct" choice, everyone would have to be really informed. If you say the "most correct" choice still has the best odds over all other choices you are setting the bar really high for the average voter. A single person or group of people with a lot of knowledge on the subject has a better chance of getting the "most correct" answer.

what if we found a UN like structure and the most powerful alliances, part of a defence council, would act as guarantee of its decisions. It would theoretically work if such structure would be large enough that other alliances could not raid it. It is true that decision making process will be slower, but it will be informed and it ll make space for rethoric and debates. So in this situation i do not see it possible unless all the bigger alliances are brought to the same negotiation talks.

Also another incentive for forming realistic alliances would be the regional argument. Alliances are usually formed within the same area/region. The current game mechanics treats invading a distant nation like invading the next door girl. no resource/time consumption/penalty no nothing - in this context the current state of world affairs and diplomacy is explainable. It is my belief that a more reasonable approach to World Affairs would require changing this situation... those are my thoughts. This is a simulation, let s make it as real as possible.
