NatRP is pretty dead... I have an idea to revive it

Recommended Posts

So...

The title is self-explanatory. The NatRP forum (from what I've witnessed) is pretty dead. Not completely dead, but close enough to being dead that we should be worried. NatRP no longer has all the dedicated players who posted every few days with in-depth, detailed posts. This should have us worried. In the past, there was enough of role-play to go around to keep fueling ideas and creativity. I'm sure I can't be the only one who's now struggling to come up with ideas and follow through with them. I think enough is enough. I have one idea to at least try and bring back some of the roleplaying... (it involves the mods... I know that may sound bad, but seriously, trust me on this).

As this forum is dying, let's use the power of the mods to revive (electrode) it back to life. What I'm saying is that every now and then, the mods can force an event to happen on Orbis (examples: alien invasion, Orbis core destabilization, asteroid impact... you get the idea). As nations on Orbis, we need to respond to this event in the way(s) that we think appropriate. Of course, the mods can then force secondary events as a consequence of the main event. This will (logically) continue until the event is over, or until we presume the event (or threat) negated.

Now, I know that on these fair isles some players don't like moderators being involved (I'm not one of them, I have respect for the mods and the job that they do). But trust me, if these events come up randomly, it'll add a little more action to this forum (it's dead). Furthermore, as a result of these events, RP players will continue the event, by explaining how their respective nations are rebuilding (if the event requires rebuilding), or how life is getting back to normal.

Alice and the NatRP players what do you think? I'd like to hear some constructive feedback towards this proposal as well!

---

Example of an "event" (if you don't understand what I mean):

(For sake of example, the "event" forced by the mods is: Imminent large asteroid impact on Orbis)

Moderator: Huh, the forum looks pretty dead... time for an event

Moderator creates post: "EVENT: Imminent large asteroid impact on Orbis": (the post should describe the event, some context, relevant details about the event, and in this case estimated impact area).

NatRP players read throught the event post. In a reply to that post, we begin a whole thread about how our respective nations respond. Throughout the response  the mods can create secondary events as a consequence of the main event.

Later...

The event ends naturally... Nations create their own new posts about (in this case) the rebuilding of their nations, and then continue in their merry way.

I think it's a good idea.

A world war is also something that's never been done here.

hmm....

Seems like I need to hurry with my return to natrp...

I've been thinking about it, and I'm glad someone finally has the courage to express this great idea. I'm in.

Well, i'm in.

I think we need something more "refreshing" events.

In that case, MODERATORS... where are you?

I know for a fact that Four was trying to do this back a bit and yall suppressed it, which is why it never happened. The reason I know this is because I am Four - or rather was - I resigned.

You all have the power to make the RP community what you want it to be, but instead you just bicker back and forth and clog up moderation with useless reports because "i don't like what they are RPing about" <-- insert little girl whiny voice there because thats how I envision you all sounding.

With dealing with your meaningless reports there would be no time to actually develop events, rules, and then moderating the shit out of that as well.

Real RP is Organic RP, where no reports come in, and everyone gets along.

Risking a warning here. How about you back off. From what can be seen so far if the community wants to give this a try (I'm for it by the way) let them. You constantly say we're always fighting but then you sit there and want to insult everything when we do want to get together over something, which honestly is trying to start a fight instead. For all you know this could work especially if everyone wants to give it a shot, so my advice again is to back off and honestly if you prefer to be in Organic RP only (perfectly fine BTW) then how about staying out of matters here unless you have something constructive to say. That is all. Edited by Amaryllis

Also if I sound snappy blame me not being able to get a full night sleep going on for two weeks now and the fact I'm up at 5 a.m shows how possibly cranky I am. Let me state this: the community is willing to try something new now. It doesn't matter that they weren't willing to take risks then. They're willing to take risks now. Seems like those you'd think would be at each other's throats are actually agreeing to something for once so I say take advantage if everyone willing to try something without any bickering. Anyway take what you want from this.

Not to mention as a mod I would suggest things to make the community better, then get shit on - then a few weeks later the Nat RP brats would be like "lets do this" which is exactly what I said and then get all up in moderations face because we aren't stimulating the RP.

Mature. Here's the thing I just read your proposal for events (maybe there was more than one, feel free to link me I just knew there was one here) it appeared no one was chewing your head off for it. From what I saw some explained how some events wouldn't work (such as wars and Meonisa explaining how he tried to do a UN but it didn't work) but did suggest events such as natural disasters(don't know why you just didn't go with that for the time being). Really the only issue I saw was that it went off topic and just died. Again don't know why you didn't take people's willingness to do natural disaster events and worked from there but meh your choice.

The discussion there was actually pretty civil. Do I think later discussions got heated over suggestions. Yes, but from what I saw the original proposal was never completely shot down so honestly i do think this will work.

If you could link me to the place where the idea was posted, I'd appreciate it (just so I can read it). Secondly, if you resigned, who's moderating?

From what I read, people wanted it although they thought some events wouldn't work (I do have ideas that might make war events work if you want to hear). Never understood why the events everyone agreed on doing (such as natural disasters) wasn't put into motion or even expanded upon but meh

Well from what Lelouch said war needed two willing players which was understandable. But I also thought why did it have PCs. Why not have a nation that's not claimed by a player maybe go to war with neighbor not claimed. The reasons could be ideological, religious, or simply I don't like your leader. When the event is announced maybe players can react such as maybe pledging support for one country or even maybe even how they're going to handle refugees fleeing the area.

If that's not possible I also thought the same idea but instead it being one country breaking out in civil war. Again, nations could react as in which side to support or maybe they think both sides should be wiped out and a new government be put in place. And again nations simply wanting to handle the civilian effort. It'll almost always guarantee a nation might run into each other or it might lead to some interesting world tensions.

And of course there's always the volunteer route where if two or more players want to have a war as an event there's a thread where they can say as such. Maybe they can also volunteer as a nation that will be in civil war or even put their claim rp as a possible war event.

They're all rough ideas so I'm willing to hear anyone willing to expand on them.

Hahahaha. Yeah, I don't see how these kids who whine when you mention their nations name are gonna handle waking up to aliens landing in front of their capital...

I don't see how people who write out "I are king, everyting purfect" will be able to make any quality content out of these scenarios anyways.

Organic is where quality RP is at. Unfortunately, I and some others have been busy on NS threads as well. (That's why I haven't posted yet.)

But at least the realm of PW-2 is stable, and not prone to insane national policies, and nations just disappearing from the realm and history, never to be seen again.

Seriously, how can a community even develop a proper lore, if an integral member just disappears and some new nation is not only where that member used to be... But also seems to claim to have always been there, with no remnant of the former nation's culture present, or even acknowledged?

Okay I'm pissed but I'll be as mature as I can and if Tristar wants me to stop (since this is his thread) I'll stop but I'll also say this:

If you don't have any intention of RPing within NatRP fine that's up to you and I do hope you have fun where you chose to RP. But if you aren't going to participate rather it be adding to the suggestion or even in the RP in general then why does this matter to you?

If you think it won't work fine it won't affect how you RP if it does work it Works and the RP has a fun thing to try out. But seriously if you don't have anything to add and you're just gonna come here to insult everyone and restart the drama (if you wanna bring past issues and how you think it'll be a problem you can do it without being a jerk and please let me hear you say I'm just wanting a safe space) there's the door.

And I'm serious guys. This goes both ways. I'm willing to admit some in NatRP had been asses (even myself), but if you're gonna bring up how those in NatRP tend to act then actually think how you're acting and please explain to me how you're justified because two wrongs don't make a right. You want the bickering to stop you check yourself too.

Thank you
