NatRP Map Rules

I thought I would start a thread where players can discuss any changes they want to see made to the NatRP map's rules. Perhaps this thread will help to create positive changes that everyone can get behind. Make sure to comment any suggestions you have below.

To start, I'd like to point out that the purpose of the National Affairs subforum is to roleplay your in-game nation. I believe nations on the map should go by their in-game nation name. Thoughts?

Agreed. Also, i know i am new to this board and i surely don't want to step over anyone's feet but.. i come from "another popular nation simulation game" where the roleplay has been totally destroyed, and brought down to total inactivity, by mindless warmongering and massive annexation of countries, and unfortunately OOC hostilities between players, thus leading good roleplayers to leave after months, sometimes years, of roleplay. My only suggestion is the mutual respect between players, and the constant remind that this is a game, a roleplay board, that in no way should be influenced or altered by "ooc" issues between players. OOC must stay out of the roleplay, because when OOC gets involved.. it really destroys the essence of roleplay, which is the personal enjoyment of the players. I think the main task of a game, any game, is to have fun, the same rule should apply for roleplay. We are here because we have fun in nation roleplaying games. I'm not saying this for any particular reason other than the previous experience "in another popular nation simulation game", which led to useless and childish drama and ooc plotting against players who were basically forced out of the boards trought random nuclear attacks and unrealistic massive invasions of space-laser-nuclear-plasma-alien-robot-spaceships and stuff like that.

 

Mutual respect between players, and the respect for players efforts in their nation's lore, is key for the well-being and the serenity of nation roleplaying games.

Says that after I change name.....

 

 I mean, We don't have to role play our nations, besides I don't know if I want to cough up 2 credits to change my nation name to something I might just being Role Playing as.

Most definitely not. Considering how many people aren't playing their original nation, it would make no sense to force it upon people.

I agree with Wolfie and Alexei. As much as I wish some of these guys would just pick a national concept and stick with it, forcing name changes is just stupid.

I don't mind some form of alternation of a name, for example France is still France. Sure she's now a French republic instead of a French empire, but she's still France. Most of the nations on the map are just their "common" name and not their full name. Evenstar is The Kingdom of The Evenstar. Resvernas is The Kingdom of Resvernas, Chernigov is (was?) the Eternal Empire of Chernigov, Stanistan is the Designation of Stanistan. With only a few short exceptions, that's how it's displayed on the map. Maybe the solution would be to just change the map name of France (and similar) to remove their "Empire" or "Kingdom" or whatever other fancy text and labels they have, and just go with their common names instead of their official names.

 

As far as national concepts go, I'd love it if we could impose some sort of "stick it out" rule that says if your gov changes type, you cant change it again for at least a couple of months. Give your new rp a chance before you blow it all to hell.

I... pretty much agree with all of this. Though it's not just government type changing, but people making entirely new nations from scratch and discarding the old ones, which is probably worse. So yeah, what you proposed is a good idea.

Not really, if you can RP the nation change, it doesnt hurt.

 

I would agree if they changed their nation every other day, but after a while, nations due fall and change.

Alright then. What about the monthly province cap? I was thinking of raising it.

Perhaps giving an option to people.

Example:

Either get 3 provinces per month

or

Extra colonies

or

Larger Colonies

 

Perhaps something like that to have people be a little unique in the way

Sounds reasonable enough. An overall max province cap makes more sense than a monthly cap, no? Granted, someone might expand unreasonably fast, but they can't overextend overall and can only get so big.

I actually agree with this a lot. Nations that are space faring could conquer more quickly than say a small city state, I'd say increase the cap or even remove it, but keep the colony cap

I mean it's certainly more reasonable than two, but an overall colony cap seems more practical than a monthly provincial cap.

The colony cap is a maximum of five colonies, with each one having a maximum of twenty provinces.

Each one at twenty?  Very well.

 

So erm can this four province limit be retroactive?  My current claims in Yemen are kind of...  Strange...  If we go by RL map.  If there is conflict between myself and Britannia it will make everything far more complicated ha ha.  Frankly I would be content with just the two coastal provinces directly west of my southernmost hold, hence why I'm bringing this up lol.

 

Otherwise four provinces seems like a reasonable 'update' so far.  Perhaps we can increase it over time.

Either I misread what you said or you misread what she meant. The original cap was 2 a month so 4 seems reasonable

Proposal: Removing the cool down period of when a player leave their land is available after 3 days.
This gives them time to return as well as provides a realistic action that would be taken from neighbors who would try and annex as much land as possible.
