Datafile:  PW 'verse (Orbis) Colonial Expansion

The establishment of Arcadia Colony on Orbis proper has been promising.  The initially tiny colony has grown twice in size, and a predicted surge of activity has led to the construction of a fuel station in orbit around Orbis VI, known to the locals as Saturn.

To ensure additional acquisition of the universe's resources, and another location in which to deploy colonists, the Brotherhood has sent another colony ship (Seedship) to yet another habitable world in the same star system as Arcadia Colony, only to discover that other civilizations have begun to settle here as well.

As an assembly of sapient species, the Brotherhood is not interested in conquest.  We would not hesitate to absorb other races if they choose to join us, but we do not believe that force is the best way to recruit new citizens.

Due to the sheer distance between the Brotherhood Core Worlds and our newest colony, reinforcements are not easy to come by.  However we retain our standard technology and at least one capital ship (the Colony Vessel which also boasts armaments of its own), with more arriving once this deliberate Colony, unlike Arcadia Colony, is established.  Additional vessels will not be on the world's surface however, and will likely be docked to a medium-sized Starbase that will be constructed if things go well.  Such starbases tend to carry, at most, several squadrons of Capital Ships, enough for a complete Task Force (250 ships).  Do note these the vast majority of ships stored in these starbases are not very large, averaging around 500-700 meters at most.

TLDR:  Anything above Carrier class on the List of Brotherhood starships is unlikely, if outright unable, to be fielded.  However attacks on civilian populations will give Command a perfect excuse to find any way possible to send Battleships or Dreadnoughts through.

BPS Elysian Shine, in Orbit around Orbis IV (Mars)

"Commander, we've marked our landing zone."

"Begin deploying our drop pods!"

A Seedship hovered over Mars, the fourth planet of the Orbis system that had recently undergone terraforming.

With an entire squadron of escorts, perhaps the citizens of Arcadia Colony would be rather miffed that Command had decided to develop an actual colony instead of sending them additional support.

However, unlike most potential colonies, this world was already occupied.  Other factions had begun to set up colonies of their own.  And thus the first drop of personnel and machinery was deployed via drop pod instead of transport, just in case some other party would attempt to fire upon them.

The Drop pods hurled through the atmosphere, heading straight for a large bay designated "Pac-Mon Bay".

As they slammed into the ground, the Captain of the Elysian Shine received a transmission.

"More ships!  We're saved."

"...  Am I speaking to Governor Tantalus of the Arcadia Colony?"

"indeed you are, Comrade!  Your squadron is a most heartening si-"

The transmission was cut.

"Men, continue establishing the colony.  We will contact Arcadia colony on our own terms in the near future."

As habitats began to emerge on the planet's surface, actual transports began to deploy from the Elysian Shine, bringing more colonists to the surface of this world.  Would they be safe, or would some unseen foe disturb their new homes?

Vex's Fuels, Orbit around Orbis VI

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S A HUGE SPACE WALL?

"...  Oh, so the Pords have set up FTLi?  Well that's just great.  A shipment of Cherry Slurm was supposed to arrive soon, but now I have to inform customers that all we have are Original and Vanilla."

Jim, Chief Manager for the Fuel Station, groaned as he cut the transmission.  Could this day get any worse?

Melvin's Maw  Colony, Orbis IV

"Captain, we have troubling news.  Your squadron is all that stands between this colony and foreign fleets."

"What?"

"We have received word that the Pords have set up an interdiction field across the system."

"Sir!"  The Elysian Shine's Tactical Officer called out.  "Perhaps we could work with Arcadia Colony here.  The Aphrodite's Caress is equal to our own, and with two Seedships among our Squadron we could easily stand a chance against a much larger force of these...  Less advanced ships.  We have a Fuel Station near one of the Gas Giants, and we can gather there.  The colonies may be vulnerable, but only barbarian scum would attack civilians."

"...  Let's just say I have no faith in these natives.  Have you seen what they do to population centers that fly under different flags?  Still...  Contact Governor Tantalus.  Send him a fruit basket if we must.  As the Founder said, "Broes before A'Hoes."  We must stand together if we are to weather this storm..."

Vex's Fuels

One of the employees nonchalantly glanced out a window.

Oh!  The Slurm delivery barge arrived somehow, in spite of the FTL inhibitor.

His eyes widened, though, as hundreds of ships began to emerge from behind the Slurm barge.

BPS Elysian Shine, Bridge

The Captain rose from his chair.

"Multiple jump points have appeared sir!...  Friendly configuration."  The Tactical officer called out.  She spent a moment to turn and look the Captain in the eyes:

"Sir...  It's the Hood."

BPS Hood, Mercury Class Combat Carrier, Bridge, Flagship: Task Force 779

"Hood to all ships."  The carrier's Communications Officer announced on a public channel.  "Form up.  We are to approach Melvin's Maw as quickly as possible and protect The Sun Also Rises as she begins construction of the Starbase.  If any, I repeat, any ships open fire on us, we are authorized to Fire At Will."

The full Task Force of over 200 ships sallied forth towards Orbis IV.  Their mission:  to construct a Starbase in orbit around the planet, and begin efforts to truly develop a presence over this world.

As the Hood and its fleet approached, the squadron housing both the Elysian Fields and Aphrodite's Caress was quick to join them.

BPS Aphrodite's Caress, Bridge

On the bridge of Arcadia Colony's Flagship, there was jubilation.

"We're not alone!"

"Quick, hail the Hood.  They've brought a lot of attention to Melvin's Maw, but what about Arcadia?

On the viewscreen, however, the Captain of the Hood did not seem amused.

"Thank you for your assistance, Captain, but while I am under orders to assist in the defense of your colony as well as all other Brotherhood assets in system, I have also been ordered to distribute resources efficiently...  There have been no Orders for Arcadia Colony as of late.  I think you folks can do fine on your own."

And thus, there was only sorrow.

Datafile (Incomplete):  ISIS' Loving Smile, Martian Starbase

While the name is somewhat unfortunate, the Humans of Bro Earth (Universe FS 143) had restored faith in the Egyptian, Norse, Greco-Roman, and Incan Gods as well as their fanatical devotion to the principles of Ubuntu.  As such, the Starbase was named after the Egyptian Goddess Isis' lovely smile.

Construction had began and was completed far ahead of schedule, mostly due to the Engineers and Workers assigned to the project working overtime to ensure that the system would have ample defenses against sudden assaults.  Across the Brotherhood settlements in the Orbis System there was a sense of foreboding, as though some great calamity was about to start.  It did not help that the local Pkunk would often scream:

"DARK PORTENTS!  WRATH AND VENGEANCE!  ILL TIDES WILL FALL UPON US ALL!"

While it was not unusual for these psychic and paranormal sapient birds to spout this sort of thing from time to time, the usual joyfulness of Pkunk seers (i.e. those who actively trained themselves in reading occult signs and the twisted portents) was hereby shattered as virtually every Pkunk citizen in the Orbis system would shriek these sort of lines.

The 220 or so starships assigned to the Orbis Garrison braced themselves.  Perhaps something was amiss.  Or maybe the Pkunk were yelling nonsense again.  That wouldn't be too surprising.

Datafile:  Dark Matter Engine

A new development spawned from a collaboration between Brotherhood Intelligence and Brotherhood R&D, the Dark Matter Engine is considered fairly dangerous at this time.  While it allows a starship to achieve amazing acceleration and thrust, it is believed that the Engine manipulates the universe itself, actually causing it to move around the ship.  Due to these unique properties, however, it has proven difficult for other vessels to get a good reading of a Dark Matter Engine while it is in use.

Datafile:  Chronus-Class Battleship

The Chronus Class Battleship is one of the heavier warships in the Brotherhood's arsenal.  It is equipped with a large number of weapon batteries across its superstructure, the most of prominent of which being the Octogonapus Class Superlaser which is visible as a cannon nozzle embedded on the bow.  Several lancer cannons also protrude prominently out of the main hull, a feature that helps it look more intimidating than the majority of Brotherhood Starships.

Datafile:  Tianhu Class Battleship

BPS Qianlong, a starship of this illustrious class, has been assigned to Isis' Lovely Smile and arrived shortly after Chronus.  Tianhu Class Battleships boast less armaments than the Chronus, and as such seem less 'threatening,' but their design focuses on greater speed and maneuverability for a heavy capital ship.  The Superlaser is equipped below the 'head' of the ship, and the various cannons are nestled as mostly turrets.  As such the ship's batteries are less focused than the Chronus and entire volleys are less prominent, but with a much wider firing arc and many more thrusters this ship is designed to hurl into a midst of an enemy armada and punch its way through in pursuit of a specific retreating target, while the Chronus is designed to absorb damage and hurl punishment at the entire enemy fleet!

Battle Group 889

Nearly seven hundred ships have gathered around Isis' Lovely Smile, and Cronus  has been designated as the Flagship.

These vessels include Four Battleships:  The Cronus  class  Cronus and Atlanta, the Tianhu  class  Qianlong, and the Oblivion class Gurkha

Multiple Solaris class Star Destroyers have also been deployed to give this relatively new class of ship demonstrable battlefield experience.

A sizable number of Kraken  and Go'lonsi class Battlecruisers have also been garrisoned here.

With so many ships, Command is confident that the Brotherhood can both demonstrate its strength to UMS allies and defend the system from any threat.  Ideally, the lack of Dreadnoughts or Superdreadnoughts can convince UMS allies that the Brotherhood is a force to be reckoned with.

...  Hey, might just be sabre-rattling, but considering the kind of powers our allies have, can you blame us?

"This is Queen Phage I of the Mri Empire. My ship's sensors have detected VOID signatures inbound on the Orbis System they will arrive within five minutes, have your defenses prepared and your ships in fighting condition. The Naxids were not content to wait on us to make the first move in this 'verse. Perhaps they have learned from their ancestral mistakes."

Thankfully, it seemed much longer than five minutes since this transmission, but Command would take no chances.

Thousands of civilians loaded up on transports, fleeing the colonies back through the transversal gate in system.

Most of these civilians came from Melvin's Maw however.  Arcadia actually stubbornly began convincing some of them to reroute to the colony as it was a 'better defensible position.'

Starships hurled towards Isis' Gentle Smile, even those few civilian ships with legal (non military grade) armaments.  Surely, any attempt to hold off the Naxids would count?  Surely?

Requests for reinforcements were sent.  Perhaps they would be ignored.  It seemed counter-intuitive:  why sacrifice hundreds of ships for barely 450,000 remaining colonists?  If these fools wished to stay, why risk even more lives to protect them?

Battle Group 889 stood firm, however.  Even if the remaining civilians did not wish to flee, these ships pledged to defend all Brotherhood citizens.  They would gladly give their lives to buy time for others to run!

OOC:  Brought to you by Oncaro.

IC:

Braxis, Capital Planet of the Brotherhood of Planets, Universe NS-1

"Comrade Marshal.  We have received multiple distress signals from one of our distant colonies."

"Surely not Bootis?!"

"No, sir.  We believe Bootis would have been able to resist.  No, the colony under attack is a fairly obscure one.  It is called 'Arcadia,' and was established recently."

"...  How many people?  Assets in system?"

"Roughly 500,000 remaining colonists, and about 700 vessels.  Four of them are Battleships."

The aide handed the Marshal a datapad.

As he read the report, the Marshal of the Aerospace Force rose from his chair  "What?!  You are telling me that our distant colonies won't even be graced by our Dreadnoughts?!"

"Sir, there was no time to fiel-"

"Get me the Admiralty!  We must resist."

"But sir...  500,000 colonists.  700 ships.  If the local garrison escapes, we would have even fewer losse-"

"What use is the Defense Force if it flees without a fight?!  Gather all available assets.  We will deploy one World Fleet to the system, at the very least!  Failing that, an entire System Fleet.  The Orz mocked us, yet we beat them.  The Shivans mocked us, yet now they do not dare to approach Sol.  How can we lift our heads up high if we let one more foe mock us?!"

OOC:  Possibly Tens of Thousands of Ships inbound.  That Interversal Gate better be ready.

Please Rise for the Vux Regional Anthem:

(Preferably at full volume)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCljD5v2Cmk

In Orbit of Vux Prime, Beta Lyuten I:  Vux Starbase Sax's Gentle Hand, Universe SC 614

Personal Quarters of the Chief Marshal of the Vux Navy

A voice, feminine in tone, continued to speak from an intercom near the ceiling.

While some might call that feminine voice melodious, even the most obtuse human might not consider such a voice melodious at 3 in the Morning.

"Marshal Git, please report to the Operations Deck."

The Marshal stirred.  He had lived nearly three-fifths of a Vux's natural lifespan, surely that would have earned some time to sl-

"Marshal Git, please report to the Operations Deck."

"ARRRRGGGGHHHH!"  A voice cried out within the fairly dark room.  Above the large bed in the corner, a figure began to rise.

The Chief Marshal appeared at the Operations Deck a few minutes later, as required by military protocol.  The moment he entered the main chamber, the Starbase Commander handed him a cup of Coffee.

"You still have a shift at this hour, Wrex?"  Git tried his best to stifle a yawn.

"I called off my night assistant.  Duty calls, and we must follow, right?"  Wrex's snout wiggled slightly, in an amiable manner.

Git's snout wiggled in kind.

"So, what's the situation?"  Git turned towards the Lieutenant-Commander who summoned him.

"Sir!"  She saluted, Tendril flying up to strike her face just above her eye.  "There is a ship inbound.  A Seedship sir, BPS Scent of Elderberries."

Git's eye narrowed.  Perhaps it was the late hour, but he had to comment:  "Why would we be concerned about one of our own ships-?"

"Because, sir, that ship has announced that Command intends to reestablish a colony in another 'verse, and as such we need to start gathering colonists.  The Creator knows why we haven't prepared for this weeks ago, but-"

At that moment, Git's eye widened.  Sure enough, there had been some communique about a potential colony three weeks ago, but there had been multiple trade ships inbound, some better armed than a Melnorme Enforcer, and as such-

"We have nine Intruders that have already volunteered to escort the ship, although they would be reinforcing an already significant escort.  Apparently our Garthan brethren were more than eager to help repopulate the colony."

Wrex pointed at one of the viewscreens, and with one glance Git saw two fairly large Garthan Carriers.

"Have those even been standardized?"  Git asked the Commander.

"Not yet, sir, and it appears there are not a few Shofixti too.  Seems Command is very serious about this colony."

"How will this not be a disaster like Arcadia?"

"Far less Cannabis, for one thing.  The Humans, including the natives who joined us, are mostly being sent to our Sol in FS as we speak.  The humans of that 'verse....  I always felt humans were odd but those ones 'take the cake,' as they'd put it."

"If they are sending Shofixti, they must be eager to set up this colony quickly.  The Shofixti are very prolific, and as such could easily allow the colony to expand quickly.

"Sir."  Wrex chuckled.  "You are lucky the Admiralty or any of our non-Vux colleagues can't hear you right now."

Sure enough, the all the other staff members working at Ops' night shift were Vux as well.

"The day we can no longer joke or make observations about our brethren, Wrex, is the day the Brotherhood falls apart.  I'll bet you some of those Garthans and Shofixti are wondering when one of our own will start groaning about their terrible taste in fashion."

"Not to mention the fact that so many humans and humanoids live in that region."

"That too!  Are there even human colonists?  And are they sure they want us to join this colony?!"

Soon enough, a group of transports left Sax's Gentle Hand and Vux Prime itself, hurling into the Seedship's hangar.

"We've gathered all our colonists!"  Her captain announced.

"Confirmed, we are go!"  The Communications Officer called merrily.

Scent of Elderberries and her escorts made a beeline for the Interuniversal Gate.  With a blue flash, the ship and her escorts departed the Universe, headed for a brand new future!

OOC:  Because I realize that I opened a plothole.

Beta Caeli II: Rhea, The Grand Source of Suwako's Blessings:  Church of Suwako HQ, Universe NS-1

"It was successful, then, the deployment of a cloaked Seedship to PW-2?"

"It was.  Our sisters have successfully assisted in securing Wu.  The abominations who live in North China will find it far more difficult to attack our kin."

"Suwako be praised!  We may find success!  The faithful will spread across that land and bring her Word to those devoid of such Hope."

"Elder Sister, the Mucrihadeen have also offered their services.  A number have gathered a flotilla that can leave FS-143 immediately."

"It is kind for fellow Noble Faiths to offer assistance, but tell them that we have everything under control.  I would assume they want to spread Chris' light to Wu as well, but we ought to...  Delay...  That as much as possible.  Suwako needs our Faith more than Chris needs His own followers.  We must support our Goddess and ensure that She can thrive from our faith."

"As you wish."

"Oh, great Goddess, please grant us the strength to protect the lands of Wu and drive the abominations from it.  We will spread light and joy in your name, and forever curse the Immortal Thief.  Amen!"
