Roleplay is Out of Hand

Recommended Posts

Roleplay here has gotten unrealistic and out of hand. Though I do encourage imaginative RP, roleplay on National Affairs is now all about massive space empires, huge unrealistic projects, and other things that in my opinion have gotten out of hand. Back a while ago (like a year and a half ago), roleplay was a lot more about Orbis Politics and War. Now it's a strange and I feel weird mix of realistic contemporary society and politics, and a science fiction roleplay, as well as favoritistic, unrealistically short, and non-developed plots of war.

I know many of you will probably not agree with me, whether simply to criticize me because you dislike me or because a true disagreement in thought. However this is how I feel, and I will be leaving roleplay. If any of you feel similar, I hope you encourage yourselves and others to improve roleplay across the forum. If not, well have fun with your overfrequent, undeveloped wars and your unreasonable violence and unrealistic technologies and crap.

1 war=A ton

And FYI I've said it before and I'll say it again if I go to war I use realistic numbers. Don't get all upset cause you've had more civil wars than Crosby has changed nations.

Tbh it really has been annoying.

and I will be leaving roleplay

Aww, it sucks to see you go! However, if this will be like other people who have 'left' (Solaris, Eva-Beatrice, Riza, Amaryllis) then you'll be back before long. :)

Thalmor, I don't think you were trying to be mean (the problem with typing is that you can't tell the tone) but I did say I was debating leaving because of RL issues. When I took a few days to get my head on straight I decided to not leave. ^_^

I can agree that RP here needs work: on this we see eye to eye. Admittedly, I am no fan of the lack of depth that seems to pervade much of the roleplay that fills the myriad pages of these forums. Beyond this though I sense a great gulf between us. Many people tend to have a rather distorted view of realism (apparently if it isn't technology, it isn't worth the time to discern its realism level; if it is technology, then if it hasn't been built yet it gets generally lumped into a vast and overarching "unrealistic" category) which I find to be rather... Limited in scope. One thing I like to point out is that there are many different types of realism - context is king and it is through this lens that everything should be viewed. I could build a "realistically" functioning society in a steampunk world and it would act and behave in a manner consist with a steampunk polity - complete with its own set of believably and realism.

What you are describing isn't actually a quest for realism - you are looking more for a limit on technologies. Large or frequent wars, space empires, and grand projects are not inherently unrealistic. I can easily defend each of these (whether or not I'm a fan is another matter entirely) if need be. Execution and context determine whether or not something is reasonable (although I'm willing to bet if someone had an RP about hoards people building massive structures that soar hundreds of feet into the air using mainly physical manpower they'd be laughed at as "unrealistic..." Until they got to the end of the RP to reveal they were writing about the construction of the pyramids the whole time).

@Cenna - Many years ago a dear friend of mine used to RP this very vast, very large empire. He never went overboard with numbers in battle, but the mere fact that his nation was so vast and so much larger in comparison to everyone else highlighted the absurdity of the fact he even bothered interacting at all. There's no true risk and there's no inherent danger, there is only the looming reminder that this other person you are RPing with potentially has millions of X or billions of Y sitting in wait should things go south - and that thought alone is enough to spoil interaction even if it never comes to fruition. In your case specifically, there's little reason to have such massive claims as you can't actually use them in any decent RP (not to mention that you cannot truly fathom the scale with which you're working - it's beyond the human mind). It is simply wankage.

See the way you define rp is different than mine. I rp my space empire solely for my own reasons. My room that interacts with others is way more fair. If he can't handle it then it's his problem. Thalmor did fine when we had the war and nothing was op in fact the war is still "technically" going.

Also for anyone who is going to say Meonesia had so much violence, just look at France, Evenstar, Calendonia, and others who have had like a ton of wars.

Says the guy who had his entire royal family killed, then was like just a prank.

Funny thing is, the horrible RP Wars others have done, and the short ones you call out the only war that made sense, and was actually developed. By far the Trade wars was the best war RP in this Forum to my knowledge or in recent times. And we haven't had so many wars,

Sure somethings seem out of hand I won't lie, but even for me. My space empire is really irrelevant other than in our current goals to explore space as apart of the ESA. Realistically, we have 4 major allies who have these techs and beyond; Rokkenjima, Caledonia, Chernigov, GMR, Britannia and others. So yes it seems fair I could progress to build space crafts, but if you read my post you see they are all on training missions with Caledonia because they aren't masters of operating them.

Not to mention you haven't posted neither commented in weeks.

if realism is having 20 civil wars and being a failed state then please do enlighten us on your books of Running a county for dummies.

Half of you guys are dissing his post rather than actually read it and think about it. I agree with Meonesia 100% it has been out of hand and been unrealistic for awhile, when I first came to the rp here I really enjoyed it because it was realistic and enjoyable. Now it is out of hand and doesn't really make sense to me, plus everyone wanting a war for some reason. I have been thinking about leaving recently aswell mainly because most people here don't like me and more or less looks at me like a joke rather than seriously. So I will be leaving aswell. Sorry to the few people who actually think of me as a friend(which is really only a couple people) but yeah I'm leaving. I'll see y'all later and if you need me just message me in game.

Well, this post wasn't really to serve the purpose of making change, he called out members of the NATRP Community regardless. Rather than solving, or helping the problem he decided to post and say he was packing his bags which is totally accetable if he wants to. I mean, nations dissolving every month isn't realistic either. Not to mention almost everyone here did in fact say they do agree that RP has gotten out of hand sometimes. And no one wants a war, I mean you've started like 4 ;):P

I mean, best of luck in your future endeavors

Literally things are the same as they were before you joined. I don't have any remorse in the fact that the two most idiotic members of the rp are leaving because they finally realized that they screwed their reputation up by either A. Having more civil wars than there are blades of grass or B. Change nations more than a girl changes clothes. Excuse me for not caring when he tries and calls one of the best rp wars we've had crap because his RP never worked out.

Eh, I read it and I do agree with Wolf that yeah he's entitled to leave and he has his reasons. Now am I entitled to disagree with his reasons. Also yes.

Do I think the rp can get out of hands sometimes. Yes, any rp can. Do I think it can be unrealistic. Nah but that's because you could argue difference in what you could say is realistic.

I always say if you actually properly rp out what you plan to do with your nation (meaning if you don't pull things out of thin air and just say it exists) then I can say it's realistic. Tech (at least in my opinion) is the hardest to tell if it is realistic because not everyone has technological know how (i.e. again me). Doesn't mean I'll instantly dismiss it as unrealistic (and again it does help if the rp does explain it in a way where it can be possible).

As for the mix. When I first came on it already had it so I don't see why that's an issue now unless you're uncomfortable with how far it came.

And with that being said, best of luck both of you.

I told you guys, figure it out yourselves. I don't really care what happens anymore because it almost seems beyond fixing, which is why I'm leaving, I just hope maybe you guys will do something.

Besides, I have a life and I decided I don't want to spend it on this roleplay with several extremely rude community members (I mean just look at some of the above posts) who overshadow almost any good or halfway decent people in the RP community.

So we are rude? Rude for defending ourselves and our rp from one who has literally no room to talk. Tbf you were a member of the UDAC I had even several times attempted to rp with you on your space rp. You ignored every attempt. Not to mention you miraculously built a space navy put of no where....(mine has been a work in progress since I first joined, just because I don't restart everytime we have a new map doesn't mean it didn't happen, France had the help of my scientists and workers who already know the ins and outs of building a space navy) your hypocrisy is laughable but no where near as laughable as you trying to call our rp unrealistic( I've explained somewhat so in lamemans terms how I built the things I did) also you weren't around a year and a half ago so how did you know shit? A year and a half ago there were floating islands and the GSE invading said islands also there were people who believed they had armies in the trillions that they could expend and only lost a small percentage of their army. So don't tell me what anything was like a year and a half ago when you weren't anywhere near here to know. I hope you enjoyed your stay but like I said I show no remorse in seeing you leave because you can't handle my rp.

See this is what I mean, I say I'm leaving because I'm done with all this, and y'all go start more by being !@#$ to me after I'm giving y'all what you wanted by leaving. Also yes I have no problem calling out people who break rules or bend rules for people. Never have never will, didn't matter if I was on the RP team or not, y'all can't change or fix rp because half of you are to worried on trying to diss others or drive them away from rp then trying to fix it

Never before have I worked with such an immature community of people who are constantly working against themselves in every way while complaining that things need to be better. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, in all seriousness, ashamed. Now, I'm not sure how old you guys are in RL or how you were raised - but you guys are bottom of the barrel bullies to each other - its time to grow up.

I have asked you all on numerous occasions to keep this forum/community in the positives. Positive attitudes only. Then what do you do? You just jump all over each other in a never ending pile of shit drama for no actual reason.

OMG someone RP's different than youuu.. cry a god damn river.

This is closed - rule violators have been warned - positive attitudes only.

much shame. very disrespect.
